HARDWARE PART 1
Purpose Of Lesson Part 1
Hardware and the 5 basic hardware
components required to have a working
Personal Computer (PC).
5 BASIC COMPONENTS• HARDWARE: CPU, MONITOR,
KEYBOARD, MOUSE, SPEAKERS, MICROPHONE, COMPONENTS OF THE CPU, & ETC.
1. CENTRAL PROCESSING UNIT (CPU)
2. MOTHERBOARD
3. RANDOM ACCESS MEMORY (RAM) MEMORY CARDS
4. THE POWER SUPPLY
5. SYSTEM HARD DRIVE
HARDWARE• IS THE HARD
PARTS OF THE COMPUTER THAT COULD BE HELD IN YOUR HAND!
CENTRAL PROCESSING UNIT (CPU)
• IS THE COMPUTERS MAIN BRAIN THAT DOES CALCULATIONS AND RUNS ALL THE OTHER PARTS OF THE COMPUTER.
MOTHERBOARD
• IS THE WIRING OF THE COMPUTER LIKE THE HUMAN NERVOUS SYSTEM
RAM Memory• RAM Cards
Fit in Motherboard
• RAM=Random Access Memory
RAM Memory• It is like your
short term memory.
• Memory for the computer to use for a short while and then forget about it (erase over it)
• If you do a lot of multitasking or graphics you need moree of it
Power Supply• Converts AC Wall
Voltage to the DC Voltages necessary to run the various components of the computer.
• YOU NEED ENERGY TOO!!
Power Supply• Just like a
converter but bigger with more plugs with different several different Volts
• $25.00 to $75.00 in cost for most computers.
Power Hook Ups
• Power hook ups from power supply
Power Hook Ups
• Power hook ups from power supply
HARD DRIVES• ARE LIKE YOUR
BRAINS MEMORY STORAGE SYSTEM
• WHERE ALL OF YOUR MEMORIES ARE STORED
Hard Drives
• Most can hold up to two drives of more
• Can have External Drives
Hard Drive• Hard Drive is the
primary storage area for the computer system
• It stores all of the system programs
• Files that you store to hard drive
• Temporary Files
Hard Drive• AUG. 4 2015
• ARE NOW AVAILABLE IN UP TO 10,000 GIGABYTE (GB) = 10 TERABYTE (TB) VERSIONS!!!!
External Hard Drive• Allow you to store
more files
• HD’s available up to 10 Terra Byte (TB)
• 10TB = 10,000 Gigabytes
• How BIG is that 14,285 720p movies
WE HAVE DISCUSSED1. CPU CENTRAL PROCESSING UNIT
2. MOTHERBOARD
3. RAM MEMORY CARDS
4. POWER SUPPLY
5. HARD DRIVES
