SMART boards in kindergarden class rooms

SMART boards are proving to be very useful in kindergarden class rooms.

Proving to be very useful in science because while the kids are interested they can’t really see or understand what goes on.

Teachers can used computer based sources to help them explain and the kids can interact on the board using specialized materials.

SMART boards in kindergarden class rooms

It can be hard to keep the attention of a young child and when they have an opportunity to partake in their education they want to pay attention rather then being forced or asked to. SMART boards allow for them to partake in their learning.

SMART boards are easy for young kids to get up and show you what they’ve learned from the lesson whether it be through drawing, writing, or finding a source.

Reflection and AHA moment“We are always 'pushing the envelope' to see just what kindergarten children are capable of and constantly looking for ways that help us to communicate our teaching goals to the children and to be sure that they are 'really getting' the ideas behind what we are teaching.”-Chris Preston and Lee Mowbray

I love the quote above because it’s so true! In every aspect of life we are constantly pushing the envelope of technology and we never think that kids this young really need to best and most up to date technology. However, at this age kids are really getting a grasp and understanding on things and if we can change an okay understanding of a subject into an almost complete understanding, we are paving the way for generations to come.

Animation Based Test System

The goal of animation based testing is “...presenting dynamic phenomena (to students) much as they would be in the physical world”-Cook.

Dealing with just pen and paper in testing fails to represent the world as it truly is and it’s difficult to use when representing complex concepts.

Animation Based Test System

This form of testing is attracting learners because of its appeal.

The pictures allow for the student to see the reality of the situation and understand the question more in depth

This form of testing is being used specifically in science

Reflection and AHA! I think this is a great idea! Being someone who struggled with test anxiety for years I think this will really allow kids to have a better understanding of concepts especially since they can see them! This is a great idea because pictures stick with you after words have been forgotten!

Blogging and Education

Using blogs teachers have begun to find what interests students have that can be incorporated into lessons and where confusion may lie.

In one example a few teachers used blogs to improve on critical thinking, reading and writing skills after poor standardized test grades.

Page 10: Technology

Blogging Sheila Nicholas conducted an experiment where students made blogs and invited other students to be followers of their blog. They were each assigned a part of an assignment and had to find relative sites to post on their blog about their topic. Nicholas found class engagement and level of interest and knowledge went up conducting class this way.

Reflection and AHA! I thought that the idea Nicholas used was wonderful! Kids were getting to interact with each other while completing home work using their favorite tool, the internet! I think this was a great idea and with such positive results teachers should consider using it more often!

Page 12: Technology

ConclusionI’ve always known that technology has made a huge impact on education over the years, but I had no idea how great that impact had really grown to be! The testing and blogging are great addition to education and should be considered by teachers.

I thought this video was great and if you pay attention you

can see different forms of

technology changing over the years.
