Operations Summary; This compressor was installed and commissioned in 2015. Being the latest addition to the family this compressor was regarded to be in the best condition, and has the lowest accumulated running hours. This compressor is situated in the Compressor house 1, which is located in the Highveld Steel Steelwork premises. It has been manufactured and assembled in 1988 (it contains auxiliaries being installed much later e.g. the oil pump, 2013). This compressor has an approximate running hours amount of 87000. (Being running for less than a year). The compressor recently showed signs of an oil leak from the compressor itself which probably implies the seal
between cooling circuit and oil has failed leading to oil and water mixing. The compressor would have to be stripped,
inspected and repaired before start-up. It is also advisable that the compressor be subjected to a major service (even
though it is still regarded as relatively new) as it has been offline for an extended period.
An additional note to consider: This compressor has its own controller system and HMI panel, independent of the
system infrastructure. However, the PLC system mentioned above controls the main breaker based on interlocks
such as system cooling water flow requirements etc.
