NUCLEAR & PLASMA SCIENCES SOCIETY Supporting our membership and growing our community. Local Activities Local Chapters hold meetings for the benefit of local members. These meetings provide speakers from our community and offer an opportunity for technical discourse and networking. Chapters depend on volunteers to organize meetings with the support of NPSS and IEEE. All IEEE members are automatically members of their local IEEE Section under which NPSS Chapters are organized. NPSS Distinguished Lecturers Program The NPSS Distinguished Lecturers Program provides high-quality scientific and technical lectures on a broad range of topics in the nuclear and plasma sciences. It sponsors the presentation of lectures to NPSS-affiliated chapters, IEEE sections, and IEEE student branches and makes lecturers available to other IEEE entities, NPSS summer schools, colleges and universities. Women in ENGINEERING NPSS holds special events at conferences to recognize and support our professional female colleagues. In addition, many conferences provide financial help for childcare so the parents can get full value from the meeting. Technical Committees The eight different technical communities of the Nuclear and Plasma Sciences Society have their interests represented by individual technical committees, each of which is responsible for running one or more conferences and in many cases technically cosponsoring others. Leadership and Representation Our technical and career interests are represented by NPSS volunteers on various external committees. The Transnational Committee helps expand the reach of our activities world-wide. Membership and Volunteers Volunteering enhances the value of your membership. Member volunteers have more networking opportunities with senior members of our communities and then become those senior leaders themselves. Which are the important ones to you? Check out ieee.org/member Humanitarian Initiatives The IEEE Smart Village is the member-led not- for-profit humanitarian outreach program of the IEEE Foundation. The plan and initiative came from NPSS and PES members with significant Society financial support. It is a three-prong humanitarian program that provides electricity, education at all levels, and entrepreneurship to provide sustainable livelihoods for the world’s most energy-deficient populations. Learn more at http://www.ieee-smart-village.org/ TECHNICAL OUTREACH One of our conferences organizes a special and free Teacher’s Day for local science teachers, while one of our technical committees organizes one-week schools for graduate students in emerging parts of the world. NPSS is able to fully support these volunteer initiatives.
