TECHNICAL COMMUNICATION
REFLECTION
The course was based off the simple definition that “Technical communication is information expressed in words (spoken and written) and
images that allows individuals to perform work.”
We saw how technical communication is used and comes in many forms we also saw how “TC” affects the world around us in almost
every aspect.
Understanding
Types of CommunicationThere are many mediums for individuals to
communicate with each other. • Orally • Verbally• Visually• Symbolically• Digitally• Physically• Mentally
Uses
Examples of how “TC” is used…
Communicating with employers and employees in the work place
Emails Instructional
documents Speeches Street signs
It is important to know how to produce and interpret this information properly. We must also be cautious of our audience, so we can identify when it is okay to be formal or informal. Some forms of communication are meant to be simple while others are more complex.
Technical communication is everywhere and used everyday.
MethodsIt is easy to accidentally
miscommunicate processes and
situations if the proper steps aren't followed or
explained correctly.

Class work
The semesters course work consisted of…“would you rather”Writing personal resumeFormal proposalMemosImproving
communications situations/problems
Personality testsPublic speaking
All were effective tools in improving our communication skills
I learned through my classmates on how they handled these activities and their responses to certain situations.
We learned how to properly write and interpret formal and informal documents through these practices as well.
Technical communications class was an open and interactive course purposely, we did formal activities
and others informal in order interpret concepts better.
The class is based of interactions socially and formally through groups and group work.
The long term project had us work in a group semester long. We had to find out where each group member could contribute best to make the most effective solution to a problem that was relatable to students. Along the process we learned habits and tendencies of each other that were positive and negative ones that we had to overcome and work through in order to get the best final product of the assignment given.
Along with smaller activities in class that gave us insight on how to work with different classmates, who worked best with who, and learned that each individual had something to offer. Some better at certain things than others. Which showed us what it is like to work with all types of people with different backgrounds, interests, and personalities in order to complete a certain activity or project.
Group Interaction
Own opinionI see myself as a very confident person, willing to lead and take the team leader role because I trust my judgment strongly. Which proved to be a strength but I also learned to be a potential weakness in that it is hard for me to trust others with something that directly affects me if I am not completely control of the situation. (ENTP)
I got insight on how my fellow classmates perceived me as well. Apparently I am perceived as a friendly, approachable person as well as someone that is helpful and humorous.
