TLS 1.1+ required for production instances on March 4, 2017

Read on to learn about what actions you need take to prepare for this change.

What is the change?TLS 1.1+ will be required and TLS 1.0 will be disabled in all production instances on March 4, 2017 at 9:30 AM PST (17:30 UTC).

How does it impact my org and/or my users? If your production environment and your users’ browsers are not prepared to support the latest TLS versions by this date and time, your users will not be able to access your production org, and select Salesforce products and custom or partner integrations will experience disruption. Your access to the Salesforce Help & Training portal to open and manage Support cases will also be impacted.

Lightning Experience Navigation Change

See the FAQ for more information. Also view the Lightning Navigation webinar recording to hear direct from the Lightning Experience team.

What is the change? The current Lightning Experience navigation model is changing with the Winter ‘17 release. The new navigation model will be automatically enabled for all orgs that have Lightning Experience enabled. After this change, Lightning Experience-enabled orgs will not be able to revert back to the previous navigation model.

How does it impact my org and/or my users? In the new Lightning Experience model, a horizontal navigation bar at the top of the page will replace the existing vertical navigation menu on the left-hand side of the screen. Your users will still be able to navigate to any items in the navigation bar, and they’ll be able to switch easily between different apps that can be customized to help your users work more efficiently.

See the Lightning Components Developer’s Guide for more details and guidance to fix access check violations.

Access Check Enforced in Winter ‘17

What is the change? After the Winter ‘17 release, access check violations in custom Lightning components will be enforced.

How does it impact my org and/or my users? If your Lightning component code accesses a resource, such as another Lightning component or attribute, that doesn’t have an access system attribute allowing you to access it, the code will not execute or returns undefined. If you enabled debug mode, you will also see an error message in your browser console.

Salesforce Focus on Improving Security will Require TLS 1.1+ for access to all production instances on March 4, 2017Understand the impact to your production environment

The level of impact will vary based on your production environment. Common key areas of disruption include:

1. User browser access: Browser incompatibility will prevent your internal and external users from accessing your Salesforce production org and related services such as Marketing Cloud, Communities and Sites.

2. Email integration: Products such as Lightning for Outlook, Lightning Sync and Salesforce for Outlook won’t work if user local systems are not compatible with TLS 1.1 or later.

3. API integrations: Incompatible inbound and outbound integrations will cease to work, including AppExchange partner integrations.

4. Other areas: Mobile apps, Data Loader, Mobile SDK, SalesforceIQ Inbox, Files Sync, Chatter Desktop, Marketing Cloud

Read on to learn about resources available to help you prepare for this change.

EU0 Instance Refresh

Follow our best practices, outlined on the Salesforce Infrastructure Overview & Best Practices site, to ensure that you are prepared for this maintenance.

1. If you have any hard-coded references, you must update them to relative URLs or implement My Domain prior to the maintenance. Please note, not all hard-coded references are updated with My Domain. Review the Updating Hard-Coded References article for more information.

2. If your corporate network settings or email security filters restrict access to IP ranges or data centers, please ensure that you are including our current ranges. We made updates to our IP Ranges in August 2016.

3. Prepare to refresh integrations if you are experiencing integration issues following the maintenance.

4. Prepare to refresh your DNS cache if you continue to see a "Maintenance in Progress" alert following the maintenance window.

If you are not following our best practices prior to the scheduled maintenance window, your end users may no longer be able to access Salesforce after the maintenance is complete.

Salesforce Classic Mobile App to Retire in December 2017

See the Salesforce Classic Mobile App to Retire on December 1, 2017 article for more information.

Customers should begin evaluating a mobile app alternative as soon as possible, and transition their users to the Salesforce1 downloadable apps or deploy custom mobile apps to address their existing and future mobile needs.

If users do not transition to an alternative mobile solution by December 1, 2017, they will lose all access to their data in Salesforce Mobile Classic app, and they will be logged out of the app with no ability to log back in.
