SOUTH SURREY PUBLIC & COMMUNITY ART Teamwork Derek Rowe 2011 Fire hall #14, 2016 176th Street This low-relief sculpture is an example of an ancient method of telling stories and commemorating events. Teamwork celebrates the meeting of Surrey’s firefighters and Hall’s Prairie Elementary School students. It reflects the student’s playful interest in fire engines by transforming a three-dimensional sculpture of the engine’s front end into a two-dimensional child’s drawing at the back. The panel was fabricated in glass- fibre reinforced concrete in 2010. About the Artist A native Vancouverite, Derek Rowe studied at Malaspina College and the University of Victoria. Devoted to sculpture, he started Renaissance Studio, creating architectural sculptures for small to large scale buildings, exploring new cast materials and developing special molding and casting techniques. Renaissance Studio was later renamed Art Form Sculpture Studio to undertake numerous public art projects.
