The every day pain of students, working class people like

us who travel daily to colleges, offices in regions where

there is no direct Metro/Bus connectivity and the

unavailability of a direct public transport in impromptu

and emergency situations made us come up with E-

Carpool.com!

Repercussions

People face an uncomfortable ride in public transport (unable to get

seats, huge rush in buses and metros , expensive autos/taxis etc), which

forces commuters to travel through their own vehicles for a comfortable

ride leading to increased traffic on roads.

Lack of organised carpooling mechanism in India

Commuters going to the same destination don’t pool their cars because of

lack of an organised carpooling mechanism.

E-carpool.com is a unique, one-of-a-kind online carpooling forum that offers everyone in the society the services of carpooling .

It is developed along the lines of social networking sites where daily commuters and others can find out about available

carpools in their locality

X is a registered member of the e-carpool forum

X has to go from Greater Kailash to Gurgaon by his car

X updates his status in the car availability section of the forum and mentions the route which he

will take using Google Maps.

They can share the fuel price after the journey

They can approach X through the online forum or cell phone

application, and can book a seat in his car

Now, all other registered commuters searching for cars going to Gurgaon

or enroute Gurgaon-GK will be able to see his status

SPECIAL FEATURES

• After every ride the pool partners can give points or ratings or feedbacks regarding the car and the car owner regarding his driving, behaviour, car condition, reliability etc on the forum.

• In this way, a person with higher rating will be preferred by other users in the future over others

Feedback system

• The distance and route chart and the estimated travel cost for particular vehicle will be provided by the forum for the help of the users.

• The share of each carpool partner in a ride will be determined by the distance travelled by each carpool partner, current fuel prices , type of vehicle(CNG, Diesel or petrol) etc.

Fare Calculator – Google maps

• All the registered users have to give their personal details like driving license number , car registration number , employee code number etc to ensure authenticity.

• These details will be checked by us using the resources provided by transport department and by contacting employers.

Safety

• The commuters can fill in their requirements of the car in the forum to filter their search. For example:

• An affluent commuter would hardly prefer to travel in non-AC compact car.

he saves minimum of Rs. 100 on petrol costs if he carpools with two other commuters.

•Taking average working days in a month to be 20 , the person X will save 100 x 20 = Rs 2000 per month.

•Gives the comfort of a car at a very cheap price.

SOCIETY •Reduces vehicles on roads leading to lesser traffic jams and parking crunches

ENVIRONMENT

Reduces CO2 Emissions

•For every litre of petrol used in a motor vehicle, 2.3 kilograms of carbon dioxide (CO2 ) is

released.

•If we have say there are 13,000 users, and assuming they carpool in groups of 3.

• No of vehicles that are reduced = 9166 vehicles.

•Let the average distance travelled by each group = 25km.

•Then, no. of car kilometers saved = 9166 x 25 = 2,29,150 km/day

•Let us assume the average mileage given by a car = 10km/litre.

•Then litres of petrol saved in one day = 22,915 litres

•CO2 emissions saved in one day = 22,915 x 2.3 kg

= 52,704.5 kg of CO2 emission per day.
