Travis Andrews• First semester Freshman• I plan on remaining a Mechanical Engineering

Major.• This course has shown me certain aspects of

engineering I had previously been unaware of. I have learned basic programming and how to use several different technological pieces such as light sensors and ultrasonic sensors. • Learning about these pieces of equipment have given

me a basic understanding of sensors, motors, and circuits.

Travis Andrews• I definitely want to get involved in engineering

projects and clubs at UF.• I want to join SAE and possibly one of the Gator

Robotics teams.• Someday I want to work for a large company and

become part of their Research and Development lab. Then I want to move up and be a CEO.

• Make sure to take EGN 1935 and join clubs related to engineering. Go to all the UF football games, and take part in some intramural sports.

Bryan Capps 1st semester freshman Original and current EE major (but still

interested in ME) This class was my first experience with basic

programming; already had extensive experience with circuits

Advice: Don’t start off the year slacking, take exploratory classes to see what interests you, and if it’s the right fit for you, go Greek

Bryan Capps I’ve been restoring and customizing cars for 5 years

and hope to continue in the next few years at UF

I hope to go into audio/light design/fabrication for large-scale concerts or open my own custom shop

Austin Marcellus

• First semester Freshman• Mechanical Engineering Major• This course has given me insight into different

engineering disciplines outside of my designated major. I have learned basic ECE skills and knowledge that I would have otherwise never gained had I skipped out on the course.

• In the future, I can use the skills I gained in this course to further my problem solving capacity.

• I plan to get involved with a multitude of clubs at UF and take classes outside of my specified degree.

Austin Marcellus

• I am currently involved with ASME and hope to “test the waters” with a multitude of clubs/teams on campus. (Gator Robotics, SAE, etc.)

• In my future career I only hope that what I do/create helps to make the lives of others better, and that I can enjoy what I do.

• To potential students I say to take classes outside of your comfort zone and designated major, you never know what you might enjoy until you try it. Also, do something while at UF to distinguish yourself from the many other students on the same path as you.

Gerald’s Story

Gerald just turned 40. He is entering his midlife crisis. Gerald is running away from his wife, his children, and his average suburban home. As he drives down the street in his faded green 1998 Chrysler Town and Country minivan he spots a neighborhood garage sale.

Gerald’s Story

Trying to recall some of his greatest childhood memories, Gerald decides to stop in and take a peek. What could Gerald find to rekindle his childhood nostalgia with you might ask? None other than some Star Wars figurines. This cheers Gerald up, and soon after he goes back to his home and family.

Team ConclusionsOur team has gained insight into a world of robotics that prior to this class would not have been available to us. We have learned about the various electrical components and sensors that we will likely be working with in our careers in the future.

To the next group of students, we say to enjoy the class and take from it what you can, as there are many important lessons you will learn. You may not find your future career in robotics, but you will uncover many basic, useful skills that will ultimately benefit you in any professional career.
