Pylon Ski Hitch
The Pylon Ski Hitch is a removable line retraction spool that mounts on a vise-grip. This vise grip is dimensioned to fit a standard ski pylon, an existing product. The ski pylon is a tripod used to render virtually any boat suitable for water sports like waterskiing and wakeboarding.
Pylon Ski HitchPlusses: Fits a wide range of boats inboard- and outboard-style boats Based upon existing products Installation involves no boat modifications Removable, allowing user to retract line avoiding the propeller. Motorized retraction spool enhances convenience.
Minuses: Mounting interface, if cumbersome, may hinder portability. Short circuit possibilities introduced by electric motor
Interesting: Only design that functions as a completely self-contained, portable unit when
necessary.
Cleat Replacement
This design takes the place of traditionally mounted cleat. The motor is attached to shaft that serves as both the line retractor and the mount for the water ski line.
Cleat Replacement
Plusses: Low cost Mount in Existing Location
Minuses: Load on Mount when water skiing
Interesting:
Makes use of existing location
Vertical Motor and Guide Hook
Motor is oriented so that the shaft faces upward. Motor is mounted to a custom mount which mounts to existing mount locations on the boat. A guide hook is fixed on the side edge of the boat. Before the line is retrieved, user will manually hook the line. Guiding the hook side ways will keep the line away from the motor of the boat.
Vertical Motor and Guide Hook
Plusses: Low cost Simple
Minuses: Rotating component is close to the user and it might be dangerous Moment on the shaft of the motor while water skiing Load on mount while water skiing
Interesting: Uses existing mount locations Hook is a component separate from the main motor assembly
Cleat Mount-On Design
Cleat Mount-On Design
The boat cleat design is a retractable ski line in which a spool is attached to a motor which reels the line in. The spool and motor are contained within a casing. Attached to the rear of the casing is a mechanism with “drawer sliding” motion which has perpendicular arms on each end. These arms each have a hook on the outer side and a hole. To use the device, the holes are slid over the ends of the boat cleat which is fixed to the stern of the boat. A belt containing grommets is then fastened to each hook in order to secure the device to the cleat.
Cleat Mount-On Design
Plusses: Easily adjusts to a variety of boats Relatively compact Does not require permanent modifications to boat
Minuses: Requires conveniently located boat cleat May wobble or move during water skiing
Interesting: Make use of a feature which is currently standard on motor boats

Mount
The Hand Crank Bar Mount is a retractable ski line device that can be mounted in the place of the cleat. It has bar that extends above the boat motor to keep the line far from the motor propeller, and a crankset for retracting the line.
Hand Crank Bar Mount
Plusses: Simple – low cost Mount in Existing Location Strong and stable
Minuses: Retraction not motorized
Interesting: Make use of existing location without modifying the boat
