I had a fruiul ministry in Sim- feropol, Crimea the month of March and in Kyiv, Ukraine most of April. There are so many stories to tell, but I know it is oſten hard to find the me to read them, so I will make this a pictorial report. I will try something else this me, too: a link to pictures for those who would like to see more of them or in higher resoluon. March was spent in administraon, team observaon and con- sulng, packing, some maintenance projects, and preaching. From me to me I worked on my preaching and teaching assignments for Kyiv. April was spent in Kyiv where I preached several mes; gave a three-day seminar on what the Book of Acts has to say to the church in Ukraine today; gave a seminary chapel sermon and taught a series on Burning Issues in Apologecs; did a shorter version of the same talk at a meeng of researchers; and taught a full course on apologecs in one week for people in ministry who are working on a masters degree in Chris- an leadership. I met with individuals who lead various ministries and are interested in networking with me. Two of my former students and graduates came from Western Ukraine to see me on separate days. One even treated me to supper at a nice restaurant. I will return to Crimea to teach in the English summer school, an outreach event. My fights are booked for June 24-July 14. I will also do and oversee some maintenance projects and spend me with staff. Oh yes, and pack two more suitcases of our treasures to bring back to our new home. We welcome oth- ers to join us in teaching and maintenance this year and next! Prayers always ap- preciated! Anyone for a fall visit? My dates are not set yet, but probably I will have one trip to Crimea and one or two to mainland Ukraine for teaching. Airfare was 1200 last fall, Orldand0-Simferopol and return. There is a cheaper fare if booked early enough. Stories from the East—later. Some of the people I met in Kyiv (Kiev) were in hot spots at mes — in Chernobyl during the meltdown and in Eastern Ukraine during the fighng. Dear partners,

Thank you for your prayers! I had a fruitful ministry in Sim-feropol, Crimea the month of March and in Kyiv, Ukraine most of April. There are so many stories to tell, but I know it is often hard to find the time to read them, so I will make this a pictorial report. I will try something else this time, too: a link to pictures for those who would like to see more of them or in higher resolution.

March was spent in administration, team observation and con-sulting, packing, some maintenance projects, and preaching. From time to time I worked on my preaching and teaching assignments for Kyiv.

April was spent in Kyiv where I preached several times; gave a three-day seminar on what the Book of Acts has to say to the church in Ukraine today; gave a seminary chapel sermon and taught a series on Burning Issues in Apologetics; did a shorter version of the same talk at a meeting of researchers; and taught a full course on apologetics in one week for people in ministry who are working on a masters degree in Chris-tian leadership.

I will also do and oversee some maintenance projects and spend time with staff. Oh

yes, and pack two more suitcases of our treasures to bring back to our new home.

We welcome oth-ers to join us in teaching and maintenance this year and next! Prayers always ap-preciated!

Some of the people I met in Kyiv (Kiev) were in hot spots at times — in Chernobyl during the meltdown and in Eastern Ukraine during the fighting.

Center in Crimea is a

Ministry & outreach center

Focusing on student ministry

and providing academic level Bible courses

On March 2, the eve of my departure for Crimea, I finished compiling a long newsletter that included stories that I thought would help you to better understand the ministry and situation at our House on the Hill in Simferopol. I realize that today, in spite of trying to make it reader-friendly with headiness, subheads, and lots of pictures, it still takes time to wade through the text—and sometimes we do not have the time to do that. HOWEVER, if you want to read the ’inside story’ from some of my staff and from some of our students & residents, and you did not get to it when our newsletter appeared in your in-box, please take a look at it. I will resend if you no longer have it. Thanks.

Hard to embrace the change — Unless you perceive or experience the occu-

pation favorably. Crimean parliament under Russian flag. Flag vendors. The

accordion player who was sure I was a Polish journalist. The man who fol-

lowed me, finally asking me questions in English and possibly baiting me to

say something inflammatory against the Russian government. Our CIU/IIIC

building—raided by paramilitary forces and taken over in August 2014 but

now subject to being sold with the possibility that some money will return to

the founders. GC hosting Andrei for supper in our Center’s kitchen where I

cooked for myself for four weeks. Packing most of our 20 year collection of

framed art and photos. What we save from our two decades in Crimea must

fit into suitcases or 50 pound boxes and travel as accompanied baggage with

me or visiting friends. We need more friends to visit the Center!

Student life and tangible care “Sir, can we provide $50-70 to one of our tenants who is also a “work-live” program student. She comes from a very needy family and only has her grandparents to take care of her. She's been having a toothache for months now. I know that because we give her painkillers for it. She cannot afford going to a good dentist. She is a diligent worker and Vika and I like her a lot. Can we help?” Nastya (Anastasia) [Of course, we helped.]

Special teaching event at the Center’s House on the Hill in celebration of Easter!

The Gospel Story

This was a Scavenger Hunt. We had 6 stations. The first one was creation. The girls had a crossword puzzle from Genesis 1 and they read the text from the Bible. On the second station they had picture puzzle about the fall. Natalka and I were at this station to ask some questions so that the girls would un-derstand why Jesus had to come to save the world. The third station was about Jesus. We showed a movie clip based on movie on Gospel of Matthew and students had to list the facts from Jesus' life that they saw, e.g. he was born, he healed the people, he was full of joy. Then they had a ‘fill in the blanks’ assignment when they had to read the gospels and insert miss-ing words. This was about events prior to the resurrection of Christ.

Next station was the resurrection of Christ and participants had a word search puzzle with hints in the Bible. The last sta-tion was about salvation. They had mazes and at the end of each maze they could open a part of scripture. Together these parts would form two verses from Romans 10:9-10. At the finishing line girls received a bracelet with beads. Each bead has a meaning (black for sin, red for Jesus’ blood, etc).

While doing assignments at the stations they also had to keep track of the stations on a big sheet of paper. They would draw or write things. In the end it was the whole gospel for them. They also had to present their sheets and tell everyone what they understood. Some of the girls opened the Bible for the first time. After the game some people stayed and sang Chris-tian songs. Several were touched by the message of for-giveness. (by Olya Viktorova)

Support is Needed

Prayer support is always needed and especially during difficult times.

Financial support is needed for our four faithful national staff.

If you are not a regular donor, would you prayerfully consider contributing to the ministry by designating

your gifts to staff support, which enables us to reach out to unbelieving students and equip believers for

ministry. 100% of your gift will go to the team so that they can work full time in this student ministry. The

income from the dorm rooms pays for other operating expenses of the ministry.

LaVerne and I are thankful for our faithful supporters which enable me to continue to provide administrative

services and leadership while based in the US, and to make administrative and teaching trips to Crimea and

teaching trips to mainland Ukraine.
