Teaching Algebra
Thoughts and Plans…
August 24, 2012
My students will become proficient in Algebra while becoming better problem solvers by getting better at asking good questions, thinking mathematically and reasoning mathematically.
Ready, set, GO!
Use the data in the table below to predict how many albums will be downloaded this year (2011)
Year Albums Downloaded(millions)

Linear FunctionsCalled for Clipping
Create links of varying numbers of paper clips and hold each link so it hangs down along a yardstick. Make sure the “zero” on the yardstick is at the floor. Record your data in the chart below. Measure to the nearest 1/8th of an inch.
MATH WORD WALL ASSIGNMENT You must make a card for each of the following vocabulary words. Each card must have the following requirements: The Word must be printed neatly and in large lettersThe definition of the word must be neatly writtenThere must be a visual definition of the word Each card must be checked before it can be added to the wall.
We have already explored pictures and lists as a tool to problem solving. Now we will consider creating a matrix. Situation: Ian, Jarel, Ashley, and Jade (two married couples) each has a favorite sport. The sports are running, swimming, biking, and golfing. Use the clues to determine who likes which sport. Clue 1: Ian hates golf. He agrees with Mark Twain that golf is nothing but a good walk spoiled. Clue 2: Jarel can’t run around the block, and neither can his wife. Clue 3: Each woman’s favorite sport is featured in a triathlon. Clue 4: Ashley bought her husband a new bike for his birthday for use in his favorite sport.
