waders, dress a pupil up to demonstrate this).

water, suchas fishermanandmarineaggregate
dredgers, andtheydosomethingcalled
geophysicalsurvey, orgeophys. Geophysisa
hi-techsystem whichusessound wavestomap

past. Itislikelytohavebeenused fortradeand
travel, or forindustrysuchasmilling, dyeingand
fulling (processingraw wool). How importantis
yourrivertoday? Isitstillused forindustryortrade? Whatelseisitused for? Doesyourclass
thinkthattheleisureactivitiesthattakeplaceon
orneartherivertodayareimportant?

which waterisbeingused. They willnoticethe
boats, wells, bridgesandstreams. Thentheymay
begintonoticethe womendyeingclothandthe
mencarryingbarrels. Encourageyourclassto
thinkcarefullyaboutthistaskandthey willbegin
toidentifymore waysin which waterisbeing
used.
When I have run this activity I have had pupils
circle the whole picture and tell me thateverything from the plants in the field to
the birds in the trees have used water!
