• The incremental date for progression up the spine is 1 September

PLACEMENT ON SCALE

• Experience (extra points on the pay scale for classroom teachers - discretionary)

• Mainly working with SEN pupils

• Recruitment and retention payment can be awarded as a lump sum or periodic payments

THRESHOLD

• On reaching the top of the Main Scale teachers may apply to cross the threshold onto the upper pay scales

• Assessment against national standards

• Teachers will be required to have completed the previous two performance management reviews to show how they meet the post-threshold standards

Objectives of the Agreement

• To secure significant and sustainable reductions in the workload of teachers

• To continue to raise standards

• To confirm and enhance the crucial pedagogic role of teachers

• To recognise the significant contribution to raising standards made by other staff in schools

Changes to a teacher’s contract with effect on 1 September 2003

• Removal of the requirement routinely to undertake clerical/administrative tasks

• Provision of time within school sessions for teachers with leadership/management responsibilities

• Requirement that provision be made for teachers to enjoy a reasonable work/life balance

Changes to a teacher’s contract with effect on 1 September 2004

• A limit on the amount of cover to absence a teacher can be required to undertake

• This is an initial limit

• The objective is for teachers at a school rarely to cover at all

• Guaranteed minimum of 10% planning, preparation and assessment time within the timetabled teaching day

• The removal of the requirement for teachers to invigilate external examinations

• The introduction of dedicated headship time

NO DETRIMENT‘Where the Agreement specifies a phased timescalefor contractual change and implementation of otherprovisions, no steps should be taken in advance as aresult of the Agreement, which would result in aworsening of current working conditions.’
