CLILContent and Language Integrated Learning
Teaching a curricular subject through the medium of a language other than that normally used
Learning through languages It refers to teaching subjects such science,
history, geography, maths, art...to students through foreign language
CLIL is:• an acronym• has a dual focus• saves us time• motivates
Before 1980s only a few countries introduced the system
Mostly used in elite schools Quickly becoming the priority concern in
European education Offered at various levels:• Pre school level in some countries ( Great
Britain, Belgium, Spain)• Primary school level • Secondary level – most common
CLIL now offered in most of the European countries Established permanently or within short term
projects Between 3 – 30% students receive this kind of
tuition Luxemburg and Malta – all students taught at least
two languages English – most popular, taught in most countries French and German language follow after English
....use the language for real purposes in a variety of ways within the primary school day. For example:
• orally for classroom organisation, management, socialisation, and for whole-school functions such as assembly
• in written form, for notices, messages and display.
And when we also try to make school-to-school links which share curriculum-based work as well as personal information

CLIL lessons start usually on the 1st grade Language is used for learning as well as
for communication Lessons are combine the following

Questions and answers, terms and definitions
Information gap activities
Word guessing games
Class surveys and questionnaires
The language is not automatically understood
