Applications will continue to be accepted until all openings have been filled. Application can be found at: https://tamucehd.qual- trics.com//SE/?SID=SV_8Gp1Gmvt2gj14Cp Grant Director: Dr. Sandra Nite [email protected] To be elligible, teachers must be currently teaching 8th grade math, algebra or geometry. Additionally, participants must meet one of the following: • Be uncertified, emergency, or probationary certification • Teaching out of field or have not passed a TExES 4-8 or 8-12 exam for his/her teaching level • Alternatively certified (or certified before 1999), in the first 5 years of teaching • Teaching with less than 24 college math credits for middle school or less than 30 college math credits for high school • Other high needs identified in application Participants must commit to: • Take pre-tests and post-test as well as all surveys and evaluations throughout the year • Provide student STAAR results with PEIMS blotted out • Attend face-to-face sessions in College Station and online sessions scheduled during the summer as well as during fall and spring semesters (see schedules at http://tinyurl.com/TQSMSE) • Attend teacher conference w/ travel and registration paid by grant • Provide schedule for classroom observations • Cooperate with grant directors and THECB to meet federal requirements • Apply right triangle trig and the laws of sines and cosines (A2.c3; P.c3B; P.c3E). • Collect and analyze data, obtaining an appropriate functional model, including transformations, to represent the data (A2.c3; A2.c.8; P.c.2) • Solve problems with vectors and parametric equations (P.c5D; P.c6B). ® Common Objectives Participants will implement classroom activities and instructional methods that provide students opportunities to engage in critical thinking and make connections with prior knowledge and among topics at their current grade levels Participants will be able to use concrete models to 1) engage students, 2) develop deeper understanding, and 3) connect concrete models to abstract ideas and algebraic manipulations. Teachers will receive: • 100-110 hours of professional development (certificate for CPE hours at the end) • Professional development materials and Classroom ready activities • Professional development equipment and supplies (dependent on which component; for example, drone, 3D printer, CBR, or CBL-calculator based laboratory) • Stipend of at least $1000 for 100% participa- tion, pro-rated based on participation level Alg 2 and Pre-Cal Objectives • Create & interpret multiple representations of linear functions, concept of slope as rate of change, and proportionality (8.b4; 8.b5). • Apply algebra in geometric contexts (A1.a1; A1.a6). • Aanalyze and solve quadratic equations (A1.b.6G, A1.b10). • Collect and analyze linear data, identifying domain, range, rate of change, zeroes, and function rule, including transformations (A1.c.2; A1.c.3) • Recognize and apply polynomial, rational, radical, exponential and logarithmic functions and solve related equations and real-world problems (Math 1314 LO2; Math 1324 LO1; Math 2312 LO1). • Apply graphing techniques (Math 1314 LO3; Math 2312 LO3) • Apply calculus to solve business, economics, & social sciences problems (Math 1325 LO1). • Apply right triangle trigonometry and the laws of sines and cosines (Math 2312 LO6) Dual Credit Math Objectives
