Quinoa (Chenopodium quinoa Willd.) is an An-dean plant which originated in Peru and Bolivia. Before its domestication, wild quinoa was prob-

its leaves and seeds. Quinoa is now endemic in all countries of the Andean region, ranging from Colombia to northern Argentina and southern Chile. Its cultivation is nevertheless spreading as it now occurs in more than 70 countries includ-ing France, England, Sweden, Denmark, Hol-land and Italy whilst, its main global producers are Bolivia, Peru and the United States. The main known uses of this crop are human nutrition, innovative uses in the food industry in combination with legumes to improve dietary quality, animal feed, medicinal use, and, other industrial uses.Quinoa is a highly nutritious food and its nutri-

tional quality has been compared to that of dried whole milk by the FAO. It contains protein, di-

-tamins. UN Assembly and the FAO Technical Coopera-tion Programme (TCP) adopted 2013 as the Year of Quinoa (IYQ) to focus world attention on the role that quinoa´s biodiversity and nutritional value play in food security, nutrition, and pover-ty eradication, and in support of the achievement of the internationally agreed development goals including the Millennium Development Goals.Since 2009 quinoa has been evaluated for ad-aptation and productivity in Iran and according to the researches in Karaj, Ahwaz, Iranshahr, Jiroft and Kahnouj since implemented, this crop is adaptable to the climatic conditions of the country. The government is therefore planning

cropping season.
