www.taswater.com.au [email protected] Phone 13 6992 Taroona sewerage project Removing the discharge point from Taroona The Taroona Sewage Treatment Plant, which treats sewage from the Taroona area, is located in Nubeena Crescent at Crayfish Point – directly beside a marine research centre and a foreshore walking track. For some me the plant has suffered a range of issues, including odour, stormwater infiltraon, pump reliability and other problems associated with the ageing infrastructure. At mes it does not meet licence condions required by the Environmental Protecon Agency (EPA). TasWater will decommission (close down and remove) the exisng treatment plant and replace it with an underground pump staon. A new pipeline will take the sewage to Selfs Point Sewage Treatment Plant in Cornelian Bay for treatment. New pipeline The first stage of this work involves construcon of a new 4.7km rising main from Taroona to Sandy Bay. The route has been chosen for the least impact to the community and the environment and for operaonal and cost effecveness. TasWater has engaged MSD Construcons to undertake this. The installaon of this rising main will have some impact on traffic flows on secons of the Channel Highway and Sandy Bay Rd. As the pipeline progresses, in approximately 50 metre work secons, traffic controls will be in place as required. New pump staon A new pump staon will be built to replace the exisng Taroona Sewage Treatment Plant. This will be located underground and will not be visible to walkers on the nearby path. The tanks on the site of the treatment plant will be removed and the land returned to a grassed state before it is handed over to its new owner. TasWater
