Year 3 Home Learning Week beginning: 27.4.20 Maths General Information Please remember that the children are expected to complete one activity each day, in day order. Work to be recorded in homework books. The tasks to be completed each day are on the attached sheets. Remember to practise your times tables every day. Ask an adult to test you at the end of each week. Mathletics tasks need to be completed. Monday Column Methods: Addition and Subtraction Addition: When writing down sums, separate the numbers into ones, tens, hundreds and thousands. List the numbers in a column and always start adding with the ones first. Order doesn't matter - remember that 345 + 129 is the same as 129 + 345. Subtraction: If the numbers are too high or too difficult to subtract in your head, write them down in columns. Separate the numbers into ones, tens, hundreds and thousands. List the numbers in a column and always start with the ones first. Subtraction is the opposite to addition. Subtraction can always be checked by adding. Check that 182 - 37 = 145 by doing the sum: 145 + 37 = 182 Order does matter- remember to write the largest number at the top! Complete the 2 tasks on the attached sheet. You can try the challenges! Tuesday Partitioning in different ways Partitioning a number means splitting it up, so that the value of each digit is identified.
