Television SeriesThe word ‘series’ is used to define a set of episodes that are produced by a television series.A series normally use single camera however sitcoms use more then one, because its faster to produce and cheaper.Examples:

SerialA serial is a one off drama which is split into parts, weekly or day by day until the serial is finished.The plot of a serial is normally revealed within a few episodes.They often finish the serial on a cliff-hanger, making the audience want more.Examples:

Single DramaA single drama is a one off programme.A single camera is used to film this to have more control over the shots.Single dramas are dramatic and usually fictional.Examples:

Documentary/DocudramaA Documentary is based on a real life event.It can cover different genre’s, History or nature.Docudrama’s are similar to documentaries as it is based on a real life event but the characters are played by actorsExamples:

Soap OperaSoap opera’s are usually shown every 2 days of every week.They often have specials at Christmas or New Year.They are always dramatic to keep the audience watching the programme.Soap opera’s are usually on going programmes.Examples:

Feature FilmFeature Films use a single camera to have more control over the shots. They are normally 70 minutes in length.They are premiered in cinema’s but come out on TV/DVD at a later date. Also available on Netflix, Love film or Now TvExamples:

Music VideoMusic video’s are produced to promote a new song.They are shown on TV and later released as albums, a downloadable track or available to watch on YouTubeUsually shot using a single camera until it’s a live moment then it changes to multi cameraExample:
