Advertising IndustryPhotography is used in the advertising industry to visually show the products and to send messages to the target audiences. It doesn’t matter what the company's product is (Cars, food, clothes, Phones etc.) , as it can still be advertised. For example new clothing ranges and new trends can be advertised in a number of ways such as , Billboards, Social networking sites, Magazines, Television and the internet. Photo’s will be more likely to catch peoples attention rather than text so it’s a good way to increase sales on products. Most clothing companies have photos of models wearing their products, to show them off to the public. The advertising industry has a diverse range of uses, from selling products to raising awareness. Photographs can also be used to shock people, the cigarette to the right advertises a stop to smoking by showing the damage it does to your body internally. This advert may encourage people to quit after seeing this visually unpleasing image.

Fashion IndustryPhotography is used in this industry to show off the latest fashion trends and clothing ranges. Clothes designers take pictures of their models on cat walks and then use those photos in magazines, television and on the internet to get sales.

Steven Meisel is an american fashion photographer who became famous after working with the magazine Vogue. He has also worked with his friend Madonna, by taking photo’s for her 1992 book titled “Sex”.

Music IndustryPhotography is the music industry is widely used on things such as, CD covers, Poster and other merchandise. Photography is a good way of promoting new artists as pictures are good at catching peoples attention.

Ami Barwell is a photography who mainly takes images of music artists.Most usually performers from the rock and roll genre. Ami typically uses black and white effects.

Sports IndustryThe sports industry uses photography in a number of ways. It can be used to advertise things such as upcoming games or sporting events such as the Olympics. The photographer has got to be one step ahead of the action.

Bill Frakes is a famous sports photographer who often uses extreme close ups and extreme long shots in his photography.

Photo journalism

Photography in journalism is often used to accompany news stories and reports to help the audience understand the story. Another example photography could be used in the news is for missing persons etc. to help spread awareness and to make it more likely the person will be found.

Photography in this area can document horrific news stories , Momentous eventsor historical events such as the collapse of the Berlin wall.

W. Eugene Smith is a famous journalist photographer, he usually covers more serious and controversial topics, instead of advertising and more light hearted topics.

Fine Art PhotographyFine art photography is purely atheistic reasons, which only the artist might understand from creating. It is up to the individual to how perceive the photo. It subjective and down the individual how they view it.

This type of photography is down to personal taste, its used on canvases, interiors and displays.
