News from 3-6 Students who achieved a home-work return rate of 90% or better had an enjoyable morning tea with Mr Katen this morning. Mrs Katen
News from K-2 We were very pleased to receive a letter from Mrs Beer this week, telling us that she is getting better and is looking forward to seeing us next term. She has missed us and we have missed her. Jayden, Holly, Cooper and Celeste have been busily practising at home and at school, for Thursday’s Spelling Bee in Collector.
Thank you Mrs Katen and Mrs Lawson for your extra help. One of our favourite books this week, has been Tashi and the Ghosts by Anna and Barbara Fienberg. Some students have decided they would like to read more of the sixteen book series. The Tashi books are definitely a fun read.
Two more good reads, are Grandma Z by Daniel Gray–Barnett and Boy by Phil Cummings, both Australian authors. Celeste: Grandma Z is about a boy’s birthday and how his mum and dad are too afraid of mess and loudness.
His Grandma Z thinks they’re fine. She loves fun and adventure. They fly with the sandpipers to Siberia. Matilda: Grandma Z rides a motor bike and when she comes and knocks on Albert ’s door on his birthday,
his mum and dad jump. Albert walks to the door, opens the door and he sees Grandma Z. They go to see the King and Queen of Osternovia in their palace. Jayden: At the birthday party for Albert, there was an invisible elephant and there were butterflies and
sandpipers. Sean: The boy Albert had some cake instead of birthday toast and he got to ride with Grandma Z on a roller coaster. Linux: I think there could have been a submarine under the ocean that Grandma Z and Albert flew over on their way to
Siberia. Donatella: In Grandma Z, a dragon lives under Mr McQuillan ’s shop. Grandma Z and Albert go to the shop and the boy is happy. He blows on a dragon tooth horn.
Jayden: Boy is deaf and he can ’t hear it when the king and the dragon start to have a fierce battle. The dragon burns down the trees. No one wins. I think, instead of having a fight, you can talk about it.
Holly: Boy is deaf. When the king and the dragon begin to fight, the king blames it on the dragon. He blames the dragon because he sneezed fireballs on the forest. When Boy helps the king and dragon to talk, the king finds out it was an accident. They hug each other and say sorry to each other.
Cooper: Boy was deaf and the villagers didn ’t know what he was saying until he drew pictures in the sand and used his dancing hands. Max: The dragon sneezed a fireball and it burnt all of the trees.
Chloe: My favourite bit was when the dragon sneezed a fireball and burnt all the trees. Glenn: Boy had a hat and he saw the green lizard behind the rock. Eve: There’s a really big castle and a little green gecko in Boy. The gecko runs away really fast because he doesn ’t want to get
stuck in Boy’s helmet. Wassily Kandinsky was a Russian artist who lived from 1866 to 1944. He used colours and shapes to paint about
his feelings. We have tried to do the same. →
