Integrated Solutions

Our mission is foremost to provide the most comprehensive and cost effective z/OS tape library management solutions to our customers. We strive to maintain an ongoing relationship with our customers, allowing them to keep their environment optimized; while at the same time providing us with the feedback to consistently enhance the solutions.

A Customer Driven Company

While “customer driven” may be a buzzword term for many other software vendors, at GFS this is the core of our business philosophy. A significant percentage of our revenue is reinvested in development and customer support. Our customer satisfaction and retention rate reaffirm this. GFS solutions have been, and continue to be, enhanced based upon the valuable feedback we receive from our most valued partners … our customers.

GFS/iTQS - Web Reporting Complement to GFS/TQS

GFS/iTQS is a web-based complement to GFS/TQS that allows the complete analysis of z/OS tape libraries via a web browser without utilizing resources from the host z/OS system. It has a light and user-friendly interface that does not require the user to have any z/OS or SQL experience.

Through the GFS/iTQS web interface, all information related to the z/OS tape library can be viewed and analyzed via graphical charts, summaries and queries grouped by category providing data and insight into the following strategic areas in the IT environment:

Usage

GFS/TQS implements systematic quality control for z/OS tape library media. It allows the identification of tapes that have reached the usage limit, provides periodic retensioning, and automates the replacement process of old tapes, ensuring data integrity and reliability for long term data storage.

By providing features for reading and authenticity certifications, GFS/TQS also promotes adherence of the z/OS tape library infrastructure to various compliance requirements, such as Sarbanes-Oxley, Basel II and ITIL.

GFS/TQS provides two types of certification; reading certification and integrity certification.

Reading Certification executes routines to certify file reading, demonstrating its readability.

Integrity Certification produces an authentication that works like an electronic "fingerprint" of the file, representing the uniqueness of its content. Any difference when comparing authenticated versions produced at different moments shows that the file has been accidentally or intentionally changed.

GFS/TQS also allows the monitoring of VSM® physical volume usage (MVCs); which are not recognized by the z/OS operating system.

GFS/TQS interfaces with GFS/AFM and other z/OS tape

library managers in the market.

The information generated for the reports can be filtered using customizable criteria and can be exported to MS Excel®, PDF files or printed.

GFS/iTQS is included with GFS/TQS, requires no

additional licensing.

GFS/SOM is a solution that focuses on two important tape storage requirements; optimization and migration. The GFS/SOM Optimization Module allows writing files to disk, which would otherwise be written to tape, freeing processing time and capacity, with the files being timely released or moved to tape in an optimized way.

The GFS/SOM Migration Module allows files to migrate to different tape storage technologies, as well as loading virtualization equipment (VTS/VSM) with data stored in the physical tape collection.

As an additional benefit, it offers the "post processing stacking" optimization feature, which allows stacking files to optimize tape usage.

somGFS/SMM is a graphic tool for real-time management and monitoring of Sun StorageTek™ robots providing a real-time and consolidated graphic view of robot operational status. Monitoring and operation of all LSMs and ACSs in the facility under the z/OS operating environment can be performed through a Windows based GUI.

GFS/SMM is fully compatible with VSM® (Virtual Storage Manager), thus simplifying the task of working with and handling VSMs and respective components.

GFS/SMM streamlines the operator's work, requires less technical knowledge and reduces operation errors.

GFS/AFM is the most advanced tape library manager for z/OS systems and a leading solution in the market. GFS/AFM automates and integrates all management operations for protecting and releasing volumes in z/OS tape libraries while also controlling the transit of volumes, security vaults, and external tape libraries.

Notable for its versatility, GFS/AFM works integrated with other external data managers (TSM, DFSMShsm, etc), supports most robots and virtualization systems available in the market and is easy to use.

GFS/AFM provides high availability and reduces costs dramatically, eliminating the practice of frequent shutdowns for configuration or maintenance.

GFS/AFM is continually developed and is the only tape library manager that consistently keeps up with the advancements made in tape storage technology.

GFS provides conversion programs and services to easily and seamlessly migrate from pre-existing tape management systems to GFS/AFM.

GFS/Stack - Automatic Multi-File

GFS/Stack eliminates waste in tape library resources, by providing real savings with surprising simplicity and results. It allows full volume occupation of any media capacity during runtime, quickly releasing thousands of tapes. Costs are further reduced by decreasing the occupation of cells, vaults, silos and physical space.

GFS/Stack keeps the tape library continuously optimized, maximizing the return on infrastructure investments. It also optimizes production performance by significantly reducing the number of tape mounts and positioning time thus reducing processing times for jobs using tapes.

GFS/Stack uniquely performs file stacking, automatically and in real-time, eliminating the need for post-processing.

GFS/Stack is safer in the event of a disaster, making data recovery easier. GFS/Stack does not interfere with the file writing process. When needed, tapes can be read in any environment, without requiring GFS/Stack.

GFS software solutions comprise the most complete family of applications for magnetic tape and information management in the z/OS environment. These solutions provide benefits such as:

Fulfillment of audit requirements and regulatory compliance (Sarbanes-Oxley, Basel II, ITIL, etc.)Optimization of tape media usage of any capacityReduction of costs associated with tape storage (tapes, silo, floor space, etc.)Ensuring the authenticity and integrity of data stored on tape mediaEnsuring quality and usage control of tape mediaOptimization of batch processesDetailed reporting of the tape library environment via web browser and graphic interfaceHigher availability of stored dataMaximized file protection and volume releaseIntelligent data migration to exploit distinct technologiesSimplified tape library management for the next generation of mainframe professionals
