The MANUAL OF STANDARDS AND RECOMMENDED PRACTICES, SECTION C-III, SPECIFICATIONS FOR TANK CARS, ISSUE OF OCTOBER 2007, commonly known as M-1002 requires per Appendix B, Section 3.1.5 “… each facility that fabricates or repairs tank car pressure-retaining components (such as nozzles, sumps, and outlet saddles) that form an integral part of a tank car tank must have Class D certification or other recognized certification such as ASME or ANSI.” McKenzie Valve, at the date of this printing, is the only M-1003 Class D Valve manufacturer. We have had a proud past supplying parts under Voluntary Class F certification and intend to improve this service in the present and future under Class D. Although Valves and Fittings require individual AAR Approval numbers, integral tank components, such as nozzles, sumps, and outlet saddles do not. They are part of the Certificate of Construction or Modification of Tank Approval. Class D, ensures that you are getting a quality component from your vendor. A standard Bottom Outlet configuration on a tank car will include: • Saddle • Skid • 4” Low Profile Full Port Ball Valve w/ Handle • AAR E18 Style Outlet Nozzle • 5¼ - 4 Outlet Cap • 2” NPT Plug • Attachment Chain • Lock Pin • Valve Gasket • Nozzle Gasket • Cap Gasket Outlet Cap and Plug Assembly
