We’ll let you discover for yourself where Mike enjoys spending most of his time in his Tampa home. But, considering his affinity for sports—he’s a line-backer for the Atlanta Falcons—you shouldn’t be surprised to learn that his favorite room might be the most entertaining space in the house.
We greatly appreciate the generosity of Mike and his wife, Chantal, for gra-ciously opening the doors of their new home to us. After a massive renova-tion, the addition of some spectacular art and the creation of an amazing back yard, they have ultimately developed an escape perfect for their family.
Speaking of back yards, this issue also celebrates everything the great outdoors has to offer. We’re aiming to whet your appe-tite with mouth-watering recipes that will encourage you to fire up the grill and nearly one dozen outdoor kitchens to get you think-ing about your own back yard. We would love to hear your thoughts, so share your favorites with us on our Housetrends Tampa Bay Facebook page. Be sure to also check out Housetrends.com for even more home and garden inspiration.
Have a wonderful summer!
Sincerely,
Judy and Bob DeLuca and the Housetrends staff

New Homes – Renovations – Design“Yes, you can have a beautiful home built without the drama! Javic Homes’ main appeal is they build great homes, but they also communicate with you at every
stage of the house planning/ house building process. Everyone at Javic was a real pleasure to work with and always just a phone call or email away. Not only were they very professional - returning calls and emails, answering all of our questions and addressing any concerns in a very timely manner - but they really
took the time to make sure we understood the process of building a house and most importantly - they made it easy, enjoyable, and drama free!! That is quitean accomplishment! We were so pleased with Javic and how they built our home that we begged them to build our new office.” - Andrew Shein & Tien Tien

What was once a fairly bland home with a landscape consisting of worn grass and oak trees in front and a caged pool and trampoline in the rear has been completely transformed through the magic of exterior design. “The home did not have a definable style,” Kim Levell, of Levell Design, says as she discusses where this house was
when she began what amounted to a full body makeover of the entire exterior of this property. From the landscaping, to
hardscaping, to the structure of the home itself, everything was addressed to create an elegant, cohesive design.
Transforming a lacking exteriorExterior decorating, a concept that Levell coined over 15 years ago, refers to integrat-ing the design of the structure’s exterior with the landscaping. With this home, she was beginning with a nearly blank slate. The home was essentially a box with a front porch supported by columns and a spindle rail front railing. The front gate was off center and a long concrete driveway ran along the side to a separate rear garage. In the back, the pool was connected to the home by a large pool cage. With several kids and two large dogs, the homeowners had kept the landscape simple. Now, they were ready for an upgrade.
OVERLEAF: The pool and a few palm trees were the only elements preserved from the
original landscape. OPPOSITE: The new back porch features
the same boxed wood columns accentuating the front of the
Craftsman-style home. ABOVE: A new wrought iron gate, featur-
ing a bee motif, highlights the front entrance to the home.
One of the first orders of business was to center the columns of the brick front gate to the home. Originally just two brick columns, the new wrought iron front fence and custom built gate set the tone for the rest of the property. “The uniqueness of a special piece like this custom-designed gate really sets the stage; really makes it
special,” Levell says. The gate features a bee motif, which holds special personal significance to the homeowners.
Through the gate a brick path leads straight to the home’s front door. Levell always seeks to create symmetry in her designs. On either side of the path thick beds of sturdy, low maintenance minima
jasmine hold up easily to any abuse the owners’ dogs dish out. A bubbling urn water feature sets the mood adding a feel-ing of serenity, even in a busy front yard.
The appearance of the home’s façade was changed significantly as well. The round wooden porch columns were replaced with tapering boxed wood columns set on brick

bases pulling in elements of the Craftsman style to give it more heft. Handsome porch furniture and a custom made hanging day bed create inviting places to lounge. The standard deck floor was replaced with Ipe, a durable Brazilian hardwood that holds up well to foot traffic while bringing a rich dark wood element to the space.
The decorative, fake shutters on all of the home’s windows were replaced with real working shutters that are not only beautiful, but are also functional protec-tion from heavy weather. Custom-made window boxes, complete with drip irriga-tion to minimize maintenance and help keep them growing well, add the beauty
and lushness of flowering greenery—a nice European touch.
Along the side of the home, the concrete slab driveway was spruced up with bricks lining the edges and a center strip filled with brick to give it some visual interest and tie it in with the rest of the property. A wooden arbor, planted with purple flow-
ering Queen’s Wreath vine, crosses over the driveway helping to create a visual division from front to back while a smaller arbor frames the path to the pool. “Even though it is a driveway, it’s still a beautiful area,” Levell says. “We designed it so you could use the driveway for parties if you needed the space.” On the opposite side of the home, a smaller, matching arbor over a decorative side gate balances the property design as viewed from the street.
The back yard comes aliveA custom-built iron trellis divider separates the driveway from the pool. The open cross-hatch pattern set between brick columns creates a sense of division without feeling closed in. Palms from the original property landscaping were maintained and replanted. Bright red flowering pentas add splashy hits of color. This same trellis design is mirrored on the opposite side of the pool and the curving shape is echoed in the teak pool bench.
A big change to the rear of the home was the removal of the pool cage. “I can understand why people use them but they really limit what you can do and you don’t really feel like you are out-doors,” Levell explains.
To provide the homeowners with shade and a functional seat-ing area between the house and pool, the rear porch was rebuilt off the back doors using the same Craftsman-style design ele-ments used in front. The original pool was kept and Levell used the blue of the pool tiles to influence the decorative elements and colorful accents used to tie it into the new design.
A new outdoor kitchen and pool bath structure was built at the rear of the property. Blue and white glass tiles were chosen for the backsplash to tie in with the existing pool tiles and the blue, black and white fabrics used for the accent cushions. The kitchen’s Blue Pearl granite countertop gives the area a luxurious feel. A wooden arbor connects the outdoor kitchen with the garage creating a large outdoor living space perfect for large parties or intimate din-ing al fresco. All the furniture used is from the European manu-facturer Seasonal Living and is 100% outdoor friendly.
Design tips for your back yarD
Pay attention to designThroughout the property use matching or comple-mentary colored pillows, potted plants and decorative accents to tie areas together.
Smooth transitionsUse arbors planted with flowering vines to transition one living space from another.
Appeal to the senses Use scented flowers, bubbling water features, interesting plantings and unique textures to intrigue all the senses.
Address problemsDon’t allow difficulties, such as drainage problems, stop you from creating the ultimate outdoor space. Incorporate problem-solving solutions into your design.
OPPOSITE: The fully stocked outdoor kitchen resides in the new building at the end of the pool and faces the back of the home. ABOVE: The outdoor living room is located in the rebuilt porch off the back of the house.
Details, detailsAttention to detail is vitally important in creating a comprehensive design. Even the smallest spaces were taken into con-sideration. Drainage was a big issue on this property so it was addressed in sev-eral areas. The narrow strip between the driveway and the home was dug down for drainage and planted with Apostle Iris, an attractive plant that works well in tight spaces. Between the home and the pool was a small area that previously had been non-functional. This was also dug down and filled with white marble chips. White stepping stones and a huge flowering urn on a pedestal turned it into a place of beauty from both inside and out while adding more drainage for the house during heavy rains. Even the gut-ters, usually not something that people notice, were replaced with a more attrac-tive round style then accentuated with black iron brackets. “My goal is getting the homeowners outside, back to nature,” Levell says. “If they tell me that this is their favorite room in the house, then I’ve done my job.”
LEFT: A small wooden arbor frames the entrance to the pool area. BOTTOM LEFT: Two chaise lounge chairs allow the hom-eowners to enjoy some time in the sun. BELOW: The teak bench features the same curved shape seen in the trellises on both sides of the pool.

A relationship blossomsBuilding trust over time is the tried-and-true approach that Dee Marksberry, owner of Gage-Martin Interiors in North Tampa, has taken with this busy professional cou-ple whose décor she has coordinated for the last twelve years. She met and clicked with the couple in 1999 just as they began the process of building their four-bedroom, 5,200-square-foot residence with builder Lee Fernandez. Choices faced when building a house for the first time can be overwhelming, but Marksberry was able to guide the then-inexperienced twosome through the process, always pointing out the value of high quality materials and teaching about clean lines and strong design. Over the next decade, she consulted with the owners room by room to create a coordinated Tuscan décor throughout the home, one that reflects their travels and varied interests.
At the entrance to the residence, the spacious foyer itself offers an enticing panorama of various living areas: an art-oriented living room, elegant dining room, library/office, and columned entrance to the master bedroom suite. A graceful flo-ral arrangement on a pedestal table wel-comes guests.
The living room is a perfect example of how Marksberry has partnered with her clients over time to fine-tune their choices and develop a more focused approach to design decisions. She refers to it as “the evolution of the living room.” The palette of this room is built around a dramatic painting by Roberto Merelli, which she and her husband discovered in the San Marco Square in Venice. The back wall is a large picture window, and to frame it Marksberry floated the sofa in front of the window and introduced a new

cocktail table of black lacquer, which she describes as “less visually noisy.” The end tables were removed because they were too low for the room’s 14-foot ceilings. In their place are taller macassar ebony art pedestals with alabaster lamps atop. As Marksberry describes it, “This room now has more presence and makes an authoritative statement” at the entry to the home.
A ceiling of aged gold leaf tea paper with an 18th century Italian reproduction Niermann Weeks chandelier sets the tone for the formal dining room. A long Louis XVI table anchors the host chairs by R. Jones and Marge Carson side chairs. The table is adorned with two exquisite red crystal Baccarat candelabras. Above the Henredon mahogany Natchez buffet are stunning examples of the couple’s primar-ily abstract art collection. These two pieces are by Craig Allen and Helen Zarin.
Getting to know youBecause they are both gourmet cooks who love to entertain frequently, the hom-eowners decided last year that it was time to expand and re-design the kitchen, which turned out to be a major undertak-ing. The original kitchen was basically gutted. More space was needed, so a wall between the kitchen and laundry room had to go and a bedroom closet was con-verted into an expanded pantry. In order to add plumbing for a bar sink, the floor had to be lifted and then replaced, yet perfectly aligned to fit with the existing flooring. The greatest challenge was how to design efficient workflow in space that is essentially pie-shaped.
Marksberry’s solution was to make the work island triangular itself, with its point-ed end facing into the laundry room. At the tip a 36-inch diameter circular disk of
OPPOSITE: The Marge Carson side chairs feature outer backs that are upholstered in embroidered silk floral fabric from Nancy Corzine. Java-stained wenge—a hard, dark tropical wood—provides a dra-matic visual punctuation. Along the curved end are four Hancock and Moore Donghia bar stools extending toward the eating nook and family room. Two deep Franke stainless sinks with high-design faucets are on opposite sides of the tile-embedded marble top. “With such an unusual shape,” says Marksberry, “it was dicey to decide where to seam the marble for the top of the island.”
By embedding pieces of glass and limestone mosaic patterns throughout, seams are not noticeable among the glints of sage, cream and white. The mosaic tile accent is repeated in the riser of the bar and the backsplash behind the range. Five Baccarat pen-dant lights are the perfect touch for clarity and a beautiful glow above this unique surface.
The fully-integrated kitchen itself is Parisian chic, a change from an earlier French country design. “Since both husband and wife love to cook, I wanted to create a space for them where they could relax and decompress while doing their favorite thing,” notes Marksberry.
The architectural lines of the recessed panel custom cabinets, framed by slab style wenge end panels, give a sense of spacious-ness, and the understated palette of stains and glazes—linen white for cabinets; sage green for the island, java for bar and laundry—is subtly elegant. Above the six-burner Wolf range is positioned a magnificent François & Co. French Mystic limestone

hood with authentic reproduction old-world French sconces to either side. Four ovens, plus two warming drawers, make entertaining a breeze.
The laundry room, at one end of the kitchen, continues the wenge cabinetry and repeats the sage crackle subway tile and French sconces. Below, three special kitty doors give privacy to the couple’s pets—Caymus, Maya and Petrus—each named after a favorite winery. At the other end, a 1,200-bottle wine cellar leads to the formal dining room.
The kitchen overlooks an inviting fam-ily room, a popular spot for the couple. “This room combines traditional furni-ture with modern art…an unexpected sur-prise,” Marksberry points out.
A Ralph Lauren console table with mir-rored back wall and Baker sofa and chairs upholstered in nubby chenille and velvet striped fabric, from the Jacques Garcia Collection, sit upon a one-of-a-kind hand-woven Tibetan wool and silk velvet area rug that took 18 months to make. Above the mantel is a large abstract by Carol Hu and to the left a fascinating mar-ble and granite sculpture, The Tango, by Wayne Trapp. Overhead is another piece of art: a beautifully engineered custom curved-blade Aria Ventilatori ceiling fan. Its pre-weighted and balanced cast-iron body holds hardwood blades that were individually steam-bent while still wet, almost like a sculpture.
A short hallway leads to one of the homeowners’, and Marksberry’s, favorite rooms—the Conservatory. Special mill-work was needed for the custom lattice of the ceiling. Raffia covers the walls and a huge breakfront cabinet houses a shell col-lection, emphasized by the Joanna Karpay painting of a shell-strewn shore. A lizard-patterned leather cocktail table features red-lacquer trays, a color that a side table and beige and paprika striped sofa repeat. Other Karpay murals can be found in the near-by bathroom and sitting area.
LEFT: A large abstract painting by Carol Hu hangs above the mantel in the family room.
Romance is in the airThat could be the motto for the old-world elegance found in the master bedroom suite. Venetian plaster walls of Sun-baked Tuscan red set the tone for this peace-ful space. A classic carved tobacco leaf Ralph Lauren four-poster bed is accented with an Anichini spread in stripes of celadon, cream and golden cognac. A black Amy Howard courting bench with leopard accent sits at the foot of the bed. An eight-panel antique screen and armoire face a large reproduction tapestry above the bed. Woven sea grass chairs comprise an intimate sitting area. The spacious mas-ter bath features floor-to-ceiling windows that open to a small interior courtyard with fountain and a 12-foot privacy wall.
“This couple was a joy to work with,” says Marksberry. “Their home truly expresses who they are: people who lead interesting lives. The house looks lived-in, not over-matched. Fifteen years from now, it will still look good because our choices were classic yet constantly evolving.”
“I’ve learned a lot from Dee,” adds the homeowner. “We trust her taste, and think the world of her. And her sur-prises are fun! It’s like Christmas when I come home from work and see what she has done.”

Should you be considering an outdoor kitchen of your own, Russ Faulk, vice president of product develop-ment for Kalamazoo Outdoor Gourmet, suggests two areas to consider before you begin.
Make sure you have enough counter space. This is an area which often gets shortchanged in the plans. You need plenty of room around the grill for dishes and serving plates. Faulk recommends you allocate counter space to each of the four functional zones of the kitchen—hot, cold, wet and dry prep.
Lighting can be a challenge for year-round grillers
when it often gets dark before they’re ready to cook dinner. Have plenty of lights so that you can see what you are doing well after sunset.
And if the appeal of sitting around a warm meal in the cool air with a few friends isn’t enough to inspire you, Faulk suggests that outdoor kitchens are a sound investment—on par with an indoor kitchen remodel when it comes to resale value.

Mike and Chantal Peterson searched for two years for just the right home in Tampa
to put down roots. Mike, a defensive lineman for the Atlanta Falcons, lives and
works in Atlanta during football season and trains off-season in Jacksonville. Chantal
and their two boys have been living in Atlanta as well but the family decided sev-
eral years ago that they wanted to move to Florida to be closer to her family in St.
Petersburg and his family in Gainesville. Tampa suited them just right.
Renovated home a game changer for its NFL familyBy Amy Diehl | Photos by Johan Roetz
OPPOSITE: Wall designs, such as this piece, accentuate specific areas in the home. ABOVE: Shutters were removed and stucco bands were installed to the façade to create a clean look.
A perfect matchThe home the Petersons found in Stonelake Ranch had been built several years prior to their purchase but never occupied. Originally 7,000 square feet, the Petersons have worked with the original builder, Jack Bartlett of Bartlett Homes, to do five separate additions, bringing the home size to a spacious 13,560 square feet on 2.5 acres. “We’ve totally redone the house in many ways,” Chantal explains.
Prior to their arrival, the home was a very old-world, tradi-tional Mediterranean style. “We wanted to make it more mod-ern. We updated the house so it did not feel stuffy,” Chantal says. “We wanted it to be timeless but modern. The goal was to design our house in a way that we would be comfortable in it for many years.”
And, it truly did have to be comfortable. As the main gathering place for family and friends, this home is the heart of a rich and active family life from hosting large family gatherings to welcom-ing Mike’s NFL buddies who come in town to visit.
Part of that updating was in the design. They replaced all the iron scrollwork on the staircase with a more contemporary clean look and removed it totally from the glass-front wine cellar door facing the formal dining room. They also redid the interior design of the home including all of the dramatic light fixtures found throughout the home. One spectacular piece over the dining room table was custom ordered from Italy and took over a year to arrive. “Mike still doesn’t know what we paid for that one,” Chantal jokes.
Adding characterWorking with designer Audra Burch from Miami, who specializes in working with professional athletes and their families, they redid the décor from wall colors to light fixtures and furniture selection. They selected modern tans and chocolate hues that play off the light colored stone floors and soaring fireplace. Handsome artwork in tones of copper and gold add texture and richness along with stone and wood bowls and sculptural accent pieces. A dramatic acrylic sculpture purchased in Hawaii on their honeymoon commands the foyer. Modern glass art pieces in the living room add bright pops of color while a textural wall design, created by Chantal and her cousin, attests to the family’s love of art.
While the feel of the home changed dramatically with the inte-rior design, a major part of the transformation was structural. Bartlett Homes did all the work on this project. As the original builder, it made adapting the home significantly easier though, as with any construction project, there were occasional challenges. “They basically doubled the size of the house, with 5 additions in 5 different stages. It was a little difficult because they were taking a Mediterranean house and turning it into a contemporary style home. In addition to the physical structure additions, we had to redo walls, the staircase, light fixtures—on the exterior we took down shutters all the way around the house and added stucco bands for cleaner lines,” Bartlett says. “This was a great project.

ABOVE LEFT: This piece complements the brown tones of the chaise lounge. ABOVE RIGHT: Colorful art, such as this piece in the foyer, adds character to the Peterson home.
Mike was just a pleasure to work with from day one and he never changed. I feel like he has become a friend.”
Another project is now nearing completion: a full room-sized closet for Mike’s collection of 500 suits and 700 pairs of shoes.
Favorite spacesOff the kitchen, a children’s suite was added with individual spaces in a shared room for sons Michael Jr. and Gavin. “I wanted them on the same floor as our bedroom. Upstairs was too far away,” Chantal says of the room, which is decorated with rich blue walls and football-themed accents.
The largest part of the renovation was the addition of a separate structure, linked to the second floor of the home by an upstairs balcony and party space. Downstairs, the separate building features a full home theater, a pool bath and an amazing garage space, complete with hydraulic racks to store Mike’s pris-tine car collection. “This is my second favorite room in the house,” Mike says with a laugh.
The upstairs is every man’s dream: the ultimate Man Cave. “This says it all,” Mike says with a grin, pointing to the floor mat at the door which reads “Mike’s Man Cave.” “This is my favorite room in the house. This is a culmination of everything I’ve seen that I like. I wanted it clean; kind of a nightclub atmo-sphere,” he says.
Steel grey walls and carpet with black leather and chrome furniture set the tone. A full bar made of black glass mosaic tile and a commercial-grade, glass front refrigerator creates the sleek, elegant ambiance he was seeking. A regulation-size pool table grabs the eye with its bright red felt top. Mike’s framed football jerseys from the Jaguars, Colts and Falcons line the walls while displays of helmets and game balls show that Mike definitely means business on the gridiron. The grey and red colors of his old Gainesville High School football team are one of the inspirations for this room.
LEFT: The master suite includes a private sitting area that’s perfect for reading a book or enjoying a cup of coffee. BELOW: The children’s suite features two individual spaces and a football theme.
The man cave glass doors fully recess to access the spacious, screened-in balcony area that connects to the second floor of the rest of the home. The second floor features two full bedroom and bath suites as well as what they call “the Nanny suite”: a larger room with a full bathroom plus seating area and small kitchen-ette. “This is perfect if our nanny needs to stay over or if our parents come to visit,” Chantal explains.
The second floor also houses an office and a gym, as well as a colorful playroom that looks out over the backyard pool and game court. For this active family, the outside is a well-used part of the fun. An outdoor kitchen and several seating areas offer shaded relaxation while a large pool, complete with sunning shelf, is a cool place to play. Beyond the pool, the recently completed game court can be adapted for basketball, tennis or volleyball. A custom built climbing gym keeps the little ones happy.
LURE OF THE LAKE“This is our permanent home,” Chantal says. “We looked every-where in the Tampa area but just could not find what we wanted. Then a girlfriend recommended we look at Stonelake Ranch. We were blown away by how quiet it was, how big the lots were and how pretty it was out here.”
The Petersons are not the only ones who feel that way. According to Brian Funk, general manager at Stonelake Ranch, there are a lot of projects underway. “We have four homes under construction right now and four more coming soon behind that. One of the things that people are starting to see is that pricing on lots has gone down and construction pricing is lower so their comfort level is higher in moving ahead. Also, the time it takes to construct a house is drastically reduced.”
These are just a few of the homes currently under construction in the community.

Planning for the futureChantal, a former English teacher, and Mike met in class while still students at the University of Florida. Mike’s induction award into the University of Florida Hall of Fame hangs in a place of honor in the family room. Now 16 years and two adorable boys later, they are still putting their heads together to make a wonder-ful life for themselves and their family.

Fired up!
As the temperature outside rises, we all tend to get that urge to migrate outdoors. With a cool drink in hand, one of the first things we do is fire up the grill. Summer goes hand-in-hand with outdoor barbecues, and there’s nothing quite like cooking a juicy steak or pork tenderloin.

South Tampa kitchen transformed into a pleasant culinary space

Terry Warren and Scott Willis knew they picked the perfect home
when their new neighbors started dropping by to introduce
themselves and welcome them to the neighborhood. They even
received Christmas cards and small gifts this past holiday—and they
had only owned the house for about one month. F Since moving
into the South Tampa neighborhood of Grey Gables, the couple
has noticed those small town nuances they have yearned to experi-
ence. “People wave at each other as they drive down the street,”
Terry says with a smile. “The small homeowners’ association fee
goes toward supporting two block parties each year. Everyone is
friendly. It’s a wonderful place to live.”
A perfect matchTerry and Scott fell in love with the 1949 home from the moment they first saw it, saying the surrounding neighborhood was just an added bonus. Offering 2,850 square feet of living space, the home is the perfect size for the couple. “The layout is amazing, we entertain a lot and wanted a space that was suitable for family and friends,” Terry says.
The traditional façade of the home hides Terry’s favorite aspect—the contempo-rary interior. “It’s a wonderful surprise for guests when they walk through the front door, they’re taken aback by the décor.”
The couple started remodeling much of the home right away, and the kitchen was part of the renovation plan from the very beginning. The original kitchen was incredibly small, so they chose to remove a wall separating it from the dining room. “We didn’t have any use for a formal din-ing room and knew the larger kitchen would come in handy,” Terry explains.
Terry, who has always had an affinity for contemporary design, wanted the new kitchen to match the rest of the home, but he also understood Scott’s apprehension. “Scott’s style is more transitional, so we set out to create a kitchen that combined both of our tastes.”

One of the first materials the pair agreed upon was the desire to incorporate zebrawood into the kitchen. “The lines and texture of the wood are astounding, I couldn’t resist putting it in our kitchen,” Terry adds. “But I was having a hard time finding a local kitchen designer that car-ried the wood.”
Finally, Terry and Scott walked through the doors of Artisan Design and discov-ered zebrawood cabinets featured in one of the displays. The couple sat down with designer Matt Long and cabinet designer Michael Wojcik to develop a plan.
Long was excited to accept the chal-lenge. “I was purely a traditionalist when I started in this industry, but over the years I’ve taken a liking to contemporary,” he says. “This project was interesting to me because we took that preconceived notion that contemporary needs to be light and neutral turned it on its head.”
An artistic approach The focal point of Terry and Scott’s new kitchen is the massive center island. Instead of including zebrawood through-out the entire space Long suggested using the exotic wood to highlight the island. “This island is almost like a three-dimen-sional sculpture,” he says. “When you first walk into the kitchen, the island appears to float in the center of the room.”
In an effort to make the island the focal point, Terry and Scott agreed to line the perimeter walls with rich cherry cabin-etry featuring a dark Java stain. The light quartz countertops provide a smooth, seamless finish to the design. To further
establish the island Long recommended running the quartz right down the side of the island facing the refrigerator. “By taking the countertop right down to the floor we really anchored the kitchen, it definitely makes a statement.”

kitchen trendsBy selecting the subtle countertops,
Terry and Scott were able to add the col-orful backsplash, comprised of stainless steel and brownish-copper pieces. Terry considers the backsplash to be the life-blood of the kitchen. “As soon as I saw it I knew I had to have it,” he says. “It brings everything together.”
Stainless steel appliances, including a sleek stainless and glass range hood, hard-ware, and the sink and faucet finish off the design.
Just like their neighbors, the kitchen greets all who enter. “It is so warm, almost like a hug,” Long says. “You just feel com-fortable in here.”
“It’s refreshing every time we walk into the kitchen,” Terry says. “The warmth it provides is just an amazing feeling.”
