First Grade Science Project
See how candy crystals could grow the best
Scientific Method
What material would grow the best rock crystals?● Look at websites for ideas● Make a plan● Write down a recipe I like● Gather materials● Make hypothesis● Conduct the experiment
Materials● Recipe 1 c water, 3 c sugar, food coloring, flavor● clothespin, popsicle stick, dental floss, ribbon,
pipe-cleaner● 5 jars, 5 pencils, and tape to hold objects in place● Spoon and pan to heat the recipe● Notebook and pen for observations
Hypothesis
Looking at the gathered materials I felt that the clothespin would grow the biggest cotton candy crystals of all.
Plan
#1 Mix ingredients in pan until boiling.
Plan
#2 Dip items in mixture to saturate and let dry
Plan
#3 Let it dry and then put the objects in jars
Plan
#4 Take data and enter observations in my chart
Watched crystals grow from Jan 17- Jan 30● All jars had the same amount of ingredients● There was a different object in each jar to grow
crystals on
Conclusion
After watching all the candy crystals grow, the hypothesis was right! The clothes pin had the biggest and most crystals.
Science Rocks – especially when it is candy!
