Miami AOIT Advisory Board – Became a Struggling Board, never elected officers, appointed Chairs, informal committees

Revisited the existing Bylaws and made modifications that would be the basis for a stronger Board

Utilized Robert’s Rules of Order to institute needed processes and procedures

MARKETING AND COMMUNICATIONS COMMITTEE

GOAL I. Broaden Academy of Hospitality & Tourism national and international brand recognition/image Develop a comprehensive marketing plan to accomplish the following:

o Define the process with webmaster to review, enhance and provide regular maintenance to the website

o Link: www. aoht.org to ALC websiteo develop an e-newslettero define key message including elevator speech o present at industry association meetings o market the winning senior marketing campaign project to students and families embrace social

media & internet communication to promote the academy, and purchase constant-contact account.

Provide a template for press releases to schools Engage in targeted campaign to media including updating the media contact list and marketing

program and events to specific reporters Develop the “We are AOHT” campaign

GOAL II. Widen the net of visitor industry professionals in teacher and student development through internships, shadowships, industry training, and the annual student conference

Focus on paid internships as a priority Review guidelines for the Adopt-A-School program and add additional partners Plan and implement student marketing campaign & competition Update speakers’ bureau Participate in parents’ nights at Academy schools Produce an annual industry/student conference for 800 students at eight schools. Participate in job shadowship day (students and teachers) Provide industry specific professional development Hold a joint graduation ceremony

Policy & Procedures Manual

Operations Manual: a document that describes in detail the processes and systems that a company/organization uses to provide its services.

The Operations Manual supports and expands the Bylaws: details and defines the Board of Directors and its operation provides similar information for the Committee structure defines the procedures for the services the Board offers. defines the process for establishing an annual budget and maintaining a sound financial

operation.   

AOHT Board Governance & Membership Committee continues to work to expand and refine the Operations Manual.

As an example:  The duties of the Officers are overviewed in the Bylaws and defined in the Operations Manual. The duties of the other Board Members are defined in the Operations Manual. In addition, committees are defined in the Bylaws with detailed information in the Operations Manual.
