Make your hopscotch calculator: Outdoor play: With chalk, draw the calculator as shown in the picture, with each button large enough to step in (about 1 foot or 30 cm.) Indoor play: With paper and markers, draw each button of the calculator on a separate piece of paper. Tape the buttons as shown in the picture to form your calculator. How to play: Player 1 hops on the buttons of the calculator, making a math equation and saying it out loud. Like 5 - 3 = Player 2 writes down the math equation, then hops on the buttons with the answer, saying the equation and answer out loud. Like 5 - 3 = 2 It’s player 2’s turn to make their own equation by hopping on the buttons of the calculator. The next player solves the equation and so on. Take it further: To make it trickier, create longer equations and also hop on only one foot! What you need: sidewalk chalk to draw the board if playing outdoors 8 ½ x 11” paper if you’re playing indoors (15 sheets) markers and tape for indoor play Can you solve this secret message? 8-4 8+9 3+1 4+3 21-5 9+9 5+7 12+4 12+10 12-4 3+2 25-2 1+1 23-7 11-3 6+7 9-3 14+7 7+7 5+1 9+3 14-12 3+5 4+5 20-4 Take 20 minutes to make learning together part of your everyday.
