A number of playground equipment suppliers have been out to the school to discuss ideas and options for the upgrade. Due to the cost, the upgrade is being planned in stages over a number of years. The P&C is about to announce stage one of the Joel Park upgrade, which will include new equipment that will prove very popular at recess and lunch times. Look out for the big announcement in the next newsletter. If you have the opportunity to assist the P&C in any way, please make sure you do. They are always looking for help and new members, and you know that all funds they raise go straight back into the school. There is always something wonderful happening at Takari. The National Tree Day, where all classes assisted in planting trees around the school, and the development of the K/PP sustainability garden, where K and PP students have planted vegetables and flowers, are two recent examples. It was therefore very disappointing to return to school on Monday and see trees, vegetables and flowers ripped up and left on the ground. The children were devastated. This senseless destruction is something we don’t want to see at Takari. It is good that the community have access to our grounds after hours and on the weekends, but we all need to look after our school. If you see anyone doing the wrong thing after hours, please report them to School Watch (contact details on the back of every newsletter) or the police. Or you can report them to the front office. Please help us look after our school. David Tennant LAST WEEK’S ASSEMBLY PERFORMERS: Mrs Campione recently conducted mini class talent shows during her music specialist lessons. She was so impressed with the performances, she arranged for some of the students to provide the entertainment at the last assembly. Performing in front of the whole school is a lot harder than performing in front of your peers, and the selected students were very brave for showing us their talents. Parents are reminded the classrooms are opened at 8.30am and the day officially commences when the siren sounds at 8.50pm. There is no reason for students to be at the school before 8.30am unless they are participating in an organised activity such as Band. Supervision of students before 8.30am cannot be guaranteed. If students do have to be at school before 8.30am, they are required to sit quietly in the old undercover area. BOOK WEEK ASSEMBLY: It’s back! The Yr 2/3 class will be presenting the Book Week Assembly next Thursday 24 August. Make sure you come to school dressed in your favourite Book Week costume. The two school bands will be playing and there will be a special parade of all the costumes at the end of the assembly. Parents and friends are most welcome to attend. We’ll see you there. SCIENCE FAIR: The Yr 5/6 class is putting on a special Science Fair this week. Students from other classes have all taken part in science workshops looking at Construction, Physics, Chemistry and Aerodynamics. Congratulations to all the Yr 5/6 students, Mrs Panzich and Mrs Rogers for making this such a special week. Watch out for the Science Fair photos in the next newsletter. There is also a special Science Week incursion scheduled for next Friday 25 August. AFRICAN DRUM BEAT: Tomorrow we are having a very special incursion by the Salaka African Beat, playing authentic African instruments, singing, dancing and telling of African folk tales. A consent form, with payment details has been distributed, this is now overdue. All students from Kindy to Year 6 are expected to attend. The performance will commence at 10.00 am, parents are very welcome to attend at no charge. Notes with full details, permission forms and request for monies have been sent home with students. Mrs Luckhurst is coordinating the swimming program. Please contact her if you have any queries.

In Mrs Luckhurst and Mr Hatton’s Year 4/5 class, the students have been learning about negotiation skills. In their lessons they have learnt that negotiation is useful when two people disagree. It is a way of facing a challenge without getting angry.

The three steps to negotiation are:

YOU: Say what you want. THEM: Listen to what the other person wants. Check if it is fair and reasonable. Use listening skills and consider the other person’s Use assertive body language. perspective.

DEAL: Make a fair deal

Give a little and take a little Compromise is when both people get something they want. “I’d be willing to ………..if you do…………”
