Light up your life.

Some like it hot …

Take tropical plants,for example.

That’s why they thrive in hotand hum

idgreenhouses.People,on the other hand,prefer a less extrem

e climate atw

ork –unless,of course, they are used to the tropics.

Why do offices turn into greenhouses

when the sun shines?

The radiantenergy which penetrates

window

glass is converted to long wave

(heat) radiation when itcom

es into con-tactw

ith objects.This so called “remote

infrared”energy is then no longer able topenetrate glass,i.e.to escape. The energyrem

Our prism

Fundamentals.

Stationary DaylightSystems are alw

aysm

ounted in between double glazing lay-

ers to protectthem from

the elements.

These glass layers are fabricated justlikeconventional double glazing panes.

For the construction of glass roofs andthe installation of these elem

ents, thelatestversions of the glazing guidelinesissued by St.Gobain Germ

any and speci-fic technical guidelines on glazing pub-lished by the Deutsches InstitutfürBautechnik (DIBT) have to be follow

ed.

The insulated glass panes mustbear all

interior and exterior loads and fulfill allconstruction requirem

ents.

To guarantee the load-bearing capabilityof the glazing elem

ents,external staticloads m

ustbe calculated according toDIN

1055 standards. If local building authorities publish their ow

n standards, then these should be used.

To preventthermal cullets,heataccum

u-lation and tem

perature variance within

the multi layered pane m

ustbe avoided.

Inclined glazing.Stationary DaylightSystem

s are generallyinstalled in roofs.Since inclined glazing issubjectto greater therm

al stress, theexterior pane is fabricated from

heat-tem

pered glass, and the interior pane ism

ade of laminated safety glass.

A pitch of less than 10 degrees is notrecom

mended,since w

ater runoff must

be ensured. This applies to both the glasselem

entand the frame construction.

When installing such a system

,specialattention should be paid to am

bientinfluences,e.g.excessive am

ounts ofim

purities,falling leaves,etc.Constantexposure to m

oisture can cause material

fatigue in the pane’s surface.

Mounting area.

The mounting area of the panes should

notexceed DIN 18545 guidelines,to pre-

ventvariations in temperature betw

eenthe perim

eter and the restof the pane.

In roof glazing, glass retaining stripsshould alw

ays be mounted on the exteri-

or,since interior mounted strips form

thedrip edge in a sloped elem

ent,making

sealing nearly impossible.

The drip edge and the sealing layer must

be separated from one another, and the

drip edge should be below the sealing

layer.The exterior glass retaining stripsm

usthold the glass securely to withstand

suction effects.

Perimeter seal.

Standard sealants for multi layered

double glazing mustnotbe exposed to

directsunlight,because ultravioletradia-tion w

ill damage them

.The perimeter

sealing can be protected by cover plates, strips, silicone tape or a UV-shielding film

.

We recom

mend the use of specially fabri-

cated silicone perimeter sealants,w

hichprovide sufficientprotection even w

henexposed to directirradiation.They are,how

ever,gas-permeable and therefore

unsuited for use in gas filled glazing elem

ents.

Beading space.M

etal contacts in the beading space (e.g.studs,angle brackets, etc.),as w

ell as contactbetw

e construction must

be prevented by spacing blocks. The blocksm
