Tagging, Tracking and Traffic Sources
Aug 06, 2015
Example of a tag from the old system:◦ www.royalvegascasino.com/btag-ad123456/ ◦ These tags were unique and randomly generated in
the old system Are my old tags supported in the new
system?◦ The new system tracks your old tags and will
continue to support them◦ Reports include the old tags and their campaign
names making analysis easy
Old System Tag Structure
If you generate a tag in the new affiliate system it will look like this: ◦ btag-P50625-PR104-CM11276-TS151
The tag is made up of four parts, each separated by hyphens:◦ Part 1
“P” stands for “Partner ID” and represents your account number If your current account number is “FA50625” it will appear here as P50625
◦ Part 2 “PR” stands for “Promotion” and represents the promotion that you have chosen e.g. Royal
Vegas 1200 Free The “104” in the above example would be the numeric reference to the “Royal Vegas 1200
Free” promotion.◦ Part 3
“CM” stands for “Creative Media” and represents the media item that you have chosen e.g. 468x60 gif banner
The “11276” in the above example would be the numeric reference to the “Royal Vegas 468x60” gif banner
◦ Part 4 (Optional) “TS” stands for Traffic Source which has taken the place of “Campaign Name” in the old
system If you do not choose to apply a Traffic Source to your media the system will apply the default
traffic source If you choose to apply a Traffic Source to your media items the tag will look like this: btag-
P50625-PR104-CM11276-TS151 Please see later slide for more information on Traffic Source
New System Tag Structure
This replaces the old system’s “query string” You are still able to add custom variables to further refine your tracking
& analysis should it be needed. Custom variables can be used in both the ‘Simple’ and ‘Expanded’
media formats Custom variables can only comprise of text or numerals. Empty
spaces and special characters such as !@#$ etc… are not supported. When using the ‘Simple’ script make sure that you only add text or
numerals and do not leave spaces between the ? and "E.g. <script type="text/javascript" src="http://secure.fortuneaffiliates.com/mediahandler/btag-P50625-PR104-CM11276-TS151/?TextValue=InsertVariableHere"></script>
When using the ‘Expanded’ script make sure that you only add text or numerals and do not leave spaces after the ?
E.g. www.royalvegascasino.com/btag-P50625-PR104-CM11276-TS151/?TextValue=InsertVariableHere
Custom Variables
Is every tag I pull unique to my affiliate account?◦ Yes every tag generated on your account is unique to your affiliate account
Does the system generate multiple tags per Promotion and Creative Item?◦ No, if you pull the same promotion and creative media twice the system will
generate the same tag◦ E.g. If you search and pull a 468x60 gif banner for the RV 1200 Free
Promotion on your account you will be given this tag: btag-P50625-PR104-CM11276
If you search and pull for a second time on the same criteria you will get the above tag again
If you would like to differentiate between tags you can either create a Traffic Source and pull media on that Traffic Source or add your own unique identifier at the end of the tag in the “script” section

Why use Traffic Source?◦ Naming your source of traffic will help you to easily
analyze your player data and identify your most effective source E.g. if you have an Australian database of English
speaking players then create a traffic source called: Email list Eng Aus
◦ If you want to pull the same creative media item and promotion several times to use on various traffic sources then create multiple traffic sources and name them differently:
