Carl Pohlad has owned the Minnesota Twins since 1984 and the 2008 season marks the 25th anniversary of his ownership. With the franchise facing a possible move out of state, Mr. Pohlad was motivated by a sense of community responsibility and a feeling that major league sports, par-ticularly baseball, are important assets that contribute to the quality of life in their communities.

With that sense of community in mind, Mr. Pohlad provided critical leadership in the creation of the Twins-Hennepin County ballpark partnership resulting in the construction of a new baseball-only facility in Minneapolis’ Historic Warehouse District, while preserving the franchise for future generations of Twins fans.

In 1987, three years following the Pohlad’s purchase of the team, the Twins capped a Cinderella season by winning the fran-chise’s first ever World Series Championship. It would be the first of two world championships that the Twins would win within the first seven years under Mr. Pohlad’s leadership. The team’s recent successes, including its run of winning four American League Central Division Championships in the past five seasons (2002-2004 and 2006) attest to Mr. Pohlad’s ability to build and manage an exceptional baseball organization with a strong emphasis on player development.

Inducted into the Twins’ Hall of Fame in 2005, Mr. Pohlad served eight years on the Major League Baseball Executive Com-mittee and is currently an ex-officio member. He has also served as Vice President of the American League and as a member of the Player Relations Committee Board of Directors.

Beyond his baseball activities, Mr. Pohlad is a long-time business leader, having achieved success first in the banking business and later in the soft drink industry. Both businesses continue to be key parts of his business empire, which also includes real estate, airline passenger and freight operations, and financial services. Mr. Pohlad is currently President of Marquette Financial Companies, chairman of Mair Holdings, Inc. and a director of Genmar Holdings, Inc.

Mr. Pohlad attributes much of his life’s successes to the lessons learned while a young boy growing up in Iowa and to the love and devotion of his wife Eloise. And it is with that spirit that the couple continually worked to give back to the community with service and financial support. Mr. Pohlad has served on the boards of numerous civic and charitable organizations throughout his lifetime, including the Methodist Hospital, Health Systems of Minnesota and its successor, Park Nicollet Health Services Board. He was a founding member of the Boys and Girls’ Clubs of Minneapolis and, along with Mrs. Pohlad, became a member of the United Way’s Alexis de Toqueville Society and the Century Legacy Program of the Greater Twin Cities Area United Way in 2001. During her lifetime, Mrs. Pohlad also served many nonprofit causes, including the Sisters of Joseph Ministries Foundation, of which she was a founding board member.

Mr. Pohlad was elected to the Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans in 1989 and has remained involved in the organization’s charitable activities ever since. During 2002, he established a college scholarship program for Twin Cities area high school students through the Association.

In 1994, Mr. and Mrs. Pohlad incorporated the Carl and Eloise Pohlad Family Foundation which allowed them to significantly increase their charitable giving to a wide range of nonprofit organizations. Between 1999-2003, the Pohlad Family Foundation approved grants totaling more than $23 million. Other Pohlad-owned businesses, including Marquette Financial Companies and the Minnesota Twins, also provide support to community organizations each year. Mr. and Mrs. Pohlad have also made several significant personal gifts to a variety of other institutions, including the Greater Twin Cities Area United Way, Gonzaga University and the Mayo Clinic Foundation.

In the years since the Pohlads purchased the Minnesota Twins, Mrs. Pohlad assumed the role of “first lady” of the team and pursued it with the same enthusiasm and grace that she brought to her marriage and her family. Her unflagging support of the team both on and off the field knew no bounds. Her death in November of 2003 leaves a hole not only in the lives of her husband of 56 years and her three sons, but also in the larger Twins family.

One of Baseball’s Most Intimate VenuesMinnesota’s new 40,000-seat ballpark is scheduled to open in spring of 2010, marking the Twins’ 50th season of playing baseball in the Upper Midwest. Designed to provide fans with an outstanding baseball venue, Minnesota’s new ballpark will deliver a truly unforgettable sports and entertainment experience.

The new ballpark will provide Upper Midwest fans with one of baseball’s most intimate settings. As the new ballpark brings fans closer to the action, it will also feature spectacular views of the Minneapolis skyline and superior baseball sightlines from every seat in the house.

SeatingMinnesota’s new ballpark will feature one of the closest seating bowls to the playing field in all of Major League Baseball, and will have ap-proximately 18,500 infield seats.

ConcourseThe ballpark will feature a 360-degree open main concourse giving fans an uninterrupted view of the playing field. The concourses will be twice as wide as those found in the Metrodome.

The KnotholesMinnesota’s new ballpark will feature multiple “Knotholes” along the 5th Street side of the ballpark allowing fans to watch the action outside the park without buying a ticket.

RestroomsThere will be 401 women’s and 266 men’s restroom fixtures in Min-nesota’s new ballpark versus 256 (women’s) and 192 (men’s) fixtures at the Metrodome.

MaterialsThe ballpark’s exterior is a modern interpretation of the state’s natural creations. Hearty, weather resistant, native Minnesotan limestone forms the mass of the ballpark’s façade. Glass and metal details punctuate the limestone surface, creating a sophisticated composition. In addition, whenever possible, the ballpark and surrounding areas will incorporate Minnesota-native flowers, trees and shrubs.

ConcessionsThe Twins will offer a variety of wonderful concession options for fans of all ages

Climate / ShelterThe Twins are committed to providing a comfortable experience for fans – even when our weather is less than perfect. Fans will be able to take advantage of heated concessions, restrooms, restaurant and lounge areas found on each ballpark level. The ballpark’s sun screen – one of the largest in baseball – will provide added protection.

Fan ComfortSeats in the new Twins ballpark will be generally wider and feature more legroom than those at the Metrodome. In addition, the new Twins ballpark will feature more aisles with fewer seats per row.

AccessibilityMinnesota’s new ballpark will be among the most accesibile in profes-sional sports in terms of seating and access for fans with disabilities. Transportation to the new ballpark includes light rail transit, Northstar Commuter Rail, Metro Transit bus hub at the ballpark site, Cedar Lake Bike Trail and 20,000 parking spots within five blocks of the ballpark.
