This guide will assist the specifier in selecting the most appropriate assembly and related options based on:1. Fire rating required2. Special requirements for access control / security.
1. Won-Door FireGuard is listed as a fire-rated door (ASTM E-152) with ratings up to 3 hours.
2. Won-Door FireGuard is also listed as a 250 temperature rise door (ASTM E-152) with 1½ hour rating for use instairwell enclosure applications.
3. Won-Door FireGuard is also listed as a moveable fire wall (ASTM E-119) in straight, single parting configurations.

A. Exit Hardware may be specified at multiple locations along the door assembly to allow exiting from a space where asingle exit device would not be sufficient. (see details on pg. 2-16)
B. Vision Panels may be specified to meet code requirements for smoke barriers. (see details on pg. 2-17)C. Access Control Options. Where required, the Won-Door FireGuard assembly can be equipped to provide two levels
of access control:
When the door is in the normal supervisory mode, the door’s exit hardware is programmed to be inactive (it is activein emergency mode ). In addition, the closing system will seek the closed position. If an attempt is made to forcethe door off its closed limit, it immediately re-closes and sounds an alarm. The alarm can sound locally or remotely. When the door re-closes, the clutch engages for approximately 5 minutes to resist further attempts to force it open.
For increased security, t
An electromagnetic locking clutch is added to the closing system and provides 400 to 500 pounds of resistance toopening.
In addition to the sliding jamb and jamb stop upgrades provided in Level 1, the lead posts of the FireGuard doorare reinforced with 10-gauge steel tubing for additional strength. An additional 1” of pocket depth is required.
In the access control applications, other types of operating devices can be added including numeric key pads, push buttonand infrared operating devices, providing they are capable of receiving a low voltage signal via stranded 18-gauge wire inconduit to the Won-Door automatic closing system control box. Additional operating device contacts can be added asrequired. These access devices should be defined, provided, and installed under the respective specification section.
The REMOTE CONTROL AND STATUS PC STATION will monitor and control up to 120 FireGuard assemblies andconsists of a dedicated personal computer and customized software designed to indicate door status information and toprovide remote operation of the doors. (See pg. 2-18)

DoorConfiguration Motor Operator Configuration
The chart below indicates the maximum door (in sq. ft.) that a standard pocket mounted motor caneffectively operate when considering the door’s configuration (curved or straight, single or bi-parting) and egressrequirements.
Large door motor operators requireadditional considerations (access, space to install the operator assembly, etc.)
size
If your door’s size requirements are larger than allowed with the standard pocket mountedmotor, see the LARGE DOOR motor operator assembly below.
Non-Egress Conditions
Standard Pocket Mounted Motor Operator
Large Door Motor Operator Assembly
This motor operator assembly is used when door sizes exceed the limits stated above. It is usually locatedabove the header at the stack end of the door. When installed in this position, a 3’ wide by 2' high fire ratedaccess door is required to service and install the equipment. A minimum of 24” between the top ofthe header and the deck above is required at the motor location. The operator assembly must be located withina 1 hour rated enclosure. The Large Door motor operator assembly may be mounted below the header, butrequires 8" of additional pocket depth. (See side elevation details on pg. 2-7.)
The control boxes must also be located within 25 conduit feet of the motor and within a 1 hour rated enclosure.Typical locations are storage closets, electrical closets, or above the header. Doors of up to 900 square feetrequire 1 control box. Those exceeding 900 square feet require an additional battery box. (See elevation detailFGEL3 on pg. 2-7)
For doors exceeding 20'-0" in height or 30'-0" in width, please consult with a Won-Door representative.

Pocket Cover Door Guidelines
Won-Door FireGuard
Pocket cover doors are not required, but may be used to aesthetically conceal Won-DoorFireGuard doors. When properly done, they add to the continuity of the project and provideanonymity to the installation.
Won-Door Corporation does not manufacture or install pocket cover doors. Therefore, theyshould be specified in a separate specification section. Unless specifically required by theAuthority Having Jurisdiction, pocket doors need not be fire-rated, but solid-core doors arepreferable for reasons of durability. The door thickness and covering material is at the discretionof the designer. Many covering materials have been successfully used including: plasticlaminates, wood veneers, vinyl, paint, bronze, stainless steel, and marble. If the aggregatethickness of the pocket cover door , however, the additional thickness must beadded to the calculation of the pocket depth (see ).
Some basic criteria for the successful design of pocket cover doors are listed below:1. Doors must be side hinge swinging and must swing at .
Designing “notches” on either side of thepocket opening to accommodate the cover door thickness will prevent this (see
on the following page).2. Cover doors must be operable with less than 50 lbs. of lateral force. As the Won-Door
FireGuard door is activated, the leading edge will make contact with the cover doorand push it open. 50 lbs. is the normal operating force required for egress-typeswinging doors and
3. W Pocket doors should remain in the open position so as not toobstruct the path of the Won-Door FireGuard door when it is closing.
4. Won-Door recommends specifying either (1) a spring-action hinge such as theHager #1257 (with reversed spring-action) to hold the cover door open whenactivated (2) a continuous
(1) The reversed spring-action in the Hager #1257 butt hinge makes thecover door self-opening rather than self-closing. Cover doors without spring-action hinges may swing back into the operating path of the Won-DoorFireGuard and cause damage or obstruct emergency operation.
(2) For aesthetic considerations, a continuous hinge is preferable because it notdoes protrude beyond the face of the pocket cover door and thereforepresents a “hingeless” appearance. When a continuous hinge is used, however, a “bumper” is required. The bumper prevents the pocket door fromswinging back into the operating path of the Won-Door FireGuard. Won-Door does not provide bumpers, but its design is shown on the next page.(See page 1-11.) A bumper adds 1” to the pocket depth requirement.
5. A magnetic catch not to exceed 30 lbs. can serve to keep the pocket cover doors inthe closed position when the Won-Door FireGuard door is not in use. Positive latchessuch as hooks or throw bolts are not permitted because they prevent the Won-DoorFireGuard door from pushing the cover door open during operation.
6. A door frame is not required although one may be used. For aesthetic considerations, however, a “frame less” design may be preferable because it leaves only two slightreveals at the door edges and provides a less noticeable pocket door installation.

If the aggregatethickness of the pocket cover door , however, the additional thickness must beadded to the calculation of the pocket depth (see on pg 2-10).
50 lbs. is the normal operating force required for egress-typeswinging doors and
3. W ocket cover doors should remain in the open position so as not toobstruct the path of the Won-Door FireGuard door when it is closing.
4. Won-Door recommends specifying either (1) a reverse-action spring hinge such asthe Hager #1257 to hold the cover door open when activated (2) a continuous
(1) The reverse-action spring in the Hager #1257 butt hinge makes thecover door self-opening rather than self-closing.
Won-Door does not provide bumpers, but the design is shown on the next page.(See page 2-12) A bumper adds 1” to the pocket depth requirement.

Pocket cover doors are not required, but may be used to aesthetically conceal the Won-DoorFireGuard MFW (Moveable Fire Wall). When properly done, they add to the continuity of theproject and provide anonymity to the installation.
If the aggregatethickness of the pocket cover door , however, the additional thickness must beadded to the calculation of the pocket depth (see on pg. 4-9).
As the Won-Door
moveable fire wall is activated, the leading edge will make contact with the cover doorand push it open. 50 lbs. is the normal operating force required for egress-typeswinging doors and
3. W ocket cover doors should remain in the open position so as not toobstruct the path of the moveable fire wall when it is closing.
Cover doors without spring-action hinges may swing back into the operating path of the Won-DoorFireGuard and cause damage to the door or obstruct emergency operation.
(2) For aesthetic considerations, a continuous hinge is preferable because it notdoes protrude beyond the face of the pocket cover door and thereforepresents a “hingeless” appearance. When a continuous hinge is used, however, a “bumper” is required. The bumper prevents the pocket door fromswinging back into the operating path of the moveable fire wall.Won-Door does not provide bumpers, but the design is shown on the nextpage (see page 4-11). A bumper adds 1” to the pocket depth requirement.
5. A magnetic catch not to exceed 30 lbs. can serve to keep the pocket cover doors inthe closed position when the Won-Door FireGuard MFW is not in use. Positivelatches such as hooks or throw bolts are not permitted because they prevent themoveable fire wall from pushing the cover door open during operation.
6. A door frame is not required although one may be used. For aesthetic considerations, however, a “frame less” design may be preferable because it leaves only two slightreveals at the door edges and provides a less noticeable pocket door installation.
