SPRING & SUMMER 2012
WWW.MISHAWAKA.IN.GOV
Dear Friends and Neighbors,
After a relatively mild winter, Spring is in the air. The unseasonably warm weather has meant that people are out using the River Walk and Parks much earlier and in greater numbers than ever before. It has been great to see so many utilizing our community assets; indeed it sends the image that our City is alive! The City of Mishawaka has been busy over the winter preparing our Parks for the great season to come. Through long hours of preparation and planning, the Parks Department will be providing another safe and enjoyable season for our Mishawaka residents. The Eberhart-Petro Golf Course opened two days early this year on March 13th and Disc Golf is underway at George Wilson Park. Once again many events are scheduled in beautiful downtown Beutter Park, including Bike the Bend, Summer Concert Series, and Friday Night Family Movie Nights. The River Walk makes a great place to get out and just enjoy the beauty of the river, Kate’s Garden, the tennis courts, play area, and rock garden at Battell Park, and downtown Mishawaka. Splash Pads at area parks will be opening. Merrifield Pool, our flagship recreation facility, will open and Mary Gibbard Pool will reopen this year with improvements including the water slide. Merrifield Pool, at almost 1,000,000 gallons, offers a 50 meter pool with a diving well, one meter diving boards, one and three meter diving platforms, and a water slide that is the main attraction. Mary Gibbard Pool features an 80,000 gallon swimming/wading pool with depths from 3 to 5 feet, a round tot pool with a water umbrella, and a water slide as its main attraction. Rockin’ by the River Day Camp will be available for all youth, ages 6 through 11. Save the Date--Summerfest, Mishawaka’s annual summer event will be hosted in Merrifield Park Friday and Saturday, June 22nd and 23rd. Summer fun is on the way in our Mishawaka Parks. To make sure you are a part of the fun, a complete and updated list of events, dates, and times can be found online at www.mishawaka.in.gov or by becoming a fan of the City Of Mishawaka on Facebook. I hope to see you out and about at one of our many events this season!
