Analysing Music Magazines

Title is simplistic , essential , stands out and also semantically adjusts the neat structure and alignment of the TOC

Date issue of magazine

Editorial Pillars: these help separate the magazine out and divide it into sections. By seeing this I think I will be using a similar style to divide my magazine up and also use realistic pillars that relate to deviations on my photo wall.

Photo wallWith leading text addresses main articles and layouts a contents on magazine features on music artists and conventions. They also come with quotes from the articles to summarise and identify what the article is about, the photos taken may also relate to the type of

Main image and most important story. It helps structures pictures around it and helps keep everything aliened surrounding this the main article. This could be seen as unconventional as the main article should be the white stripes because they are covered on the front and seem the most important however making them the main article on the TOC and make the magazine seem to repetitive as it tak3es up the whole of the front cover.

Subscription and other covers

In relation to the cover they both have simplistic style of using simple colours that attract and could be seen as a main theme for the magazine. NME is known for using mostly black , white and red and in this issue they are used well in contrast to the images and the photos have a lot of colour but are faded so nothing to strong for the TOC as the front cover is the strongest and brightest aspect.

What also appeals to me is the highlighted title and then a summary which I think is useful and will use in my TOCI like the idea of having a ‘regulars’ sections that always occurs so whilst every week things change , the way gossip and charts are presented might be the same each week

The title of Magazine stands out and helps a line everything around it. There is a natural eye flow as it is placed in the top left so it highlights and leads you to the editorial pillars. It repeats the name of the magazine in order to advertise.

The Main photo could be seen as the main article photo. It helps structure and centre the TOC making everything work around it in a ‘C’ shape.

In relation to cover, it is easy to tell this his the same magazine as they both have the same house style and structure. However the TOC is more structured then the front cover and this is something I will be taking into account

The photos used also relate to the magazine as 2 photos are of drums, they are also using simple colours and keep with the house style of red and white
