The Kingdom of the past is the Key to understand the Gospel in relation to the Future Kingdom Age. Israel, under the Kings was so styled: “The Kingdom of God”

Israel were Yahweh’s “Kingdom” and the one who assumed the throne was His representative. Thus, only Christ could fulfill this obligation to perfection!

The Name of Jesus Christ1Ch 29:23 “Then Solomon sat on the throne sat on the throne of the LORD as king instead of David his of the LORD as king instead of David his fatherfather, and prospered; and all Israel obeyed him”

This was the promise of the David Covenant typically fulfilled. Of course, the sure application is to Christ (Luke 1:30-35; Acts 2:29-35)The Lord refers to both man as applicable to himself—

Two Advents: A Man of War, Shed Blood—A Man of Peace, Rest

David—Man of War, Shed Blood: Christ 1st AdventWe are introduced to David, like Joshua,

The Gospel—there can be no Kingdom of God; the Kingdom of Israel restored (Acts 1:7), unless Yahweh provided a man to destroy the Champion, Sin!•This battle was political and religious! “Gods” “Kingdom”

“(Goliath) stood and cried unto the armies of Israel, and said unto them…choose you a choose you a man for youman for you, and let him come down to me. If he be able to fight with me, and to kill me, then will we be your servantsservants: but if I prevail against him, and kill him, then shall ye be our servantsservants, and serve usserve us” 1Sam 17:8-9The man capable of “prevailing” over Sin’s champion was not to be found among Saul’s army! The man who would release Israel for servitude of Sin was a man specially provided by Yahweh—

“David was the son of that Ephrathite of Bethlehem-judah, Bethlehem-judah, whose name was Jesse; and he had eight sonseight sons…And David was the the youngestyoungest…David went and returned from Saul to feed his father's sheep his father's sheep at BethlehemBethlehem” 1Sam 17:12-15

Bethlehem—birthplace of the Lord Jesus Christ Eight—number of circumcision, cutting off the fleshFather’s Sheep—Yahweh’s people (Eze 34)

“Jesse said unto David his son, Take now for thy brethren an ephah of this parched corn, and these ten loaves, and run to the camp to thy brethrento thy brethren…and look how thy and look how thy brethren farebrethren fare” 1Sam 17:17-18The Lord Jesus Christ was sent by the Father for the benefit of his brethren, who could not overcome the giant! John 3:16; Mat 1:21. Thus, the Lord, sharing our nature, entered into the same battle as his brethren. He was specifically sent by his Father (Heb 2:9-10)

Heb 4:15 “For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted but was in all points tempted like as we are,like as we are, yet without sinyet without sin”

“And as he talked with them, behold, there came up the champion, the Philistine of Gath, Goliath by name, out of the armies of the Philistines, and spake according to the same words: and David heard themand David heard them. And all the men of Israel, when they saw the man, fled from himfled from him, and were sore afraid” 1Sam 17:23-24The mightiest men of Saul’s army could not overcome Goliath. Abraham, Noah, Paul, Job… “all have sinned…” (Rom 3:23): except the shepherd sent by his father! The Lord alone “did not sin” (1Pet 2:22; 2Cor 5:21). For this, Jesus was rewarded—

“The man who killeth him, the king will enrich him with great riches, and will give him his daughter, and make his father's house free free in Israel” 1Sam 17:25“Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him…” Phi 2:9

“And David said unto Saul, Thy servant kept his father's sheepkept his father's sheep, and there came a lion, and a bear, and took a lamb out of the flock: And I went out after him, and smote him, and delivered it out of his mouth: and when he arose against me, I caught him by his beard, and smote him, and slew him. Thy servant slew both the lion and the bear: and this uncircumcised Philistine this uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of themshall be as one of them, seeing he hath defied the armies of the living God” 1Sam 17:34-36

The servant—son who gives his life for the father’s sheep is the epitome of the Atonement: servitude to God and his brethren:

To love Yahweh with all thy heart, soul, mind and strength; and to love thy neighbour as thyself “there is none other commandment greater than these” Mk 12:30-31

“And Saul armed David with his armour, and he put an helmet of brass upon his helmet of brass upon his headhead; also he armed him with a coat of a coat of mailmail. And David girded his sword upon his armour, and he assayed to go; for he had not proved it. And David said unto Saul, I cannot go with these; for I have not proved them. And David put them off himAnd David put them off him” 1Sam 17:38-39The Lord neither experienced fleshly thinking—brass upon his head—nor fleshly actions to try to overcome the impulses of sin’s flesh. Though he shared our nature, Jesus Christ:“ceased from sin”—1Pet 4:1“knew no sin”—2Cor 5:21“put away sin by the sacrifice of himself”—Heb 9:26“temped like as we are, yet without sin”—Heb 2:14“condemned sin in the flesh”—Rom 8:3

“And he took his staff in his hand, and chose him five smooth stones out of the brook, and put them in a shepherd's bag which he had, even in a scrip; and his sling was in his hand: and he drew near to the Philistine” 1Sam 17:40Five Smooth StonesFive Smooth Stones—the Law, Pentateuch, engraven in StoneShepherd’s bagShepherd’s bag—margin “vessel.” Reps. those enlightened

“We have this treasure in earthen vesselsin earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us”—2Cor 4:7

As recorded in the temptation in the Wilderness, the Lord drew from the Law to refute the suggestions of the Diabolos and Adversary (political and religious): Luke 4:1-13.

The Messiah was “the Word made Flesh”—John 1:14

“David put his hand in his bag, and took put his hand in his bag, and took thence a stone, and slang thence a stone, and slang it, and smote the Philistine in his foreheadforehead, that the stone sunk into his foreheadforehead; and he fell upon his face to the earth…David ran, and stood upon the Philistine, and took his sword, and drew it out of the sheath thereof, and slew him, and cut off his head therewithand cut off his head therewith” 1Sam 17:49The supreme battle is in the mind. It was the “thinking of the flesh” that never prevailed over the Lord Jesus Christ—

“the carnal mind is enmity against God”—Rom 8:7“for out of the heart proceed evil thoughts”—Mat 15:19“David took the head of the Philistinetook the head of the Philistine, and brought it to Jerusalem; but he put his armour in his tent” v. 54• Jerusalem—the ultimate destruction of Sin in the Flesh!

“And the men of Israel and of Judah arosethe men of Israel and of Judah arose, and shouted, and pursued the Philistinespursued the Philistines, until thou come to the valley, and to the gates of Ekron. And the wounded of the And the wounded of the Philistines fell down by the way Philistines fell down by the way to Shaaraim, even unto Gath, and unto Ekron” 1Sam 17:52Followers of Christ emboldened by His victory over Sin—

1Co 15:13-15 “But if there be no resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not risen: And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain. Yea, and we are found false witnesses of God; because we have testified of God that he raised up Christ: whom he raised not up, if so be that the dead rise not”

This is our Hope and Confidence: Acts 24:15; Col 3:20-21; 2Tim 2:8

“Moreover the Philistines had yet war again with Israel…These four were BORN TO THE GIANT in Gath, and fell by the hand fell by the hand of David, and by the hand of his servantsof David, and by the hand of his servants” 2Sam 21:15, 21 (HENCE THE 5 STONES)Goliath and four other “sons of the giant” were slain by David and His Servants. What Christ did, we must also do in our lives: slay the “strong man.” Saints are buried “with him” in baptism—

“And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts”—Gal 5:24

Of course the Lord called the “son of David,” and numerous Psalms of David are quoted in direct application to the Lord. David is the standard by which all Kings were measured: walk, perfect heart, doing that which was right…etc. David is typical of the pattern of Yahweh’s anointed King!

THE ATONEMENT: CHRIST NOT JUST TO BE ADMIRED, BUT TO THE ATONEMENT: CHRIST NOT JUST TO BE ADMIRED, BUT TO BE FOLLOWEDBE FOLLOWED

• Amalekites called “the sinners the Amalekites”—1Sam 15:18• Amalek attacked Israel after baptism in the Red Sea—Exo 17:8• Amalek captured the “feeble, faint, weary”—Deu 25:17-19• Amalek was defeated by Joshua’s “sword”—Exo 17:13• Amalek’s defeat written “for a memorial in a book and

rehearsed in the ears of Joshua”—Exo 17:14• Yahweh determined war with Amalek “from generation to

generation”—Exo 17:16• Yahweh commanded Saul to “utterly destroy” Amalek”—1Sam

15:3• Saul “took Agag the king of the Amalekites alive”—1Sam 15:8• Yahweh “rent the Kingdom of Israel from Saul and gave it to a

neighbour better than he”—1Sam 15:28

Yahweh’s Anointed King must overcome King Sin!

AMALEK & SIN: KINGDOM OF GOD VS AMALEK & SIN: KINGDOM OF GOD VS KINGDOM OF SINKINGDOM OF SIN

“And when he looked on Amalek, HE TOOK HE TOOK UP HIS PARABLEUP HIS PARABLE, and said, Amalek was the first of the nations (mg. “that warred with Israel”); but but his latter end shall be that he perish for his latter end shall be that he perish for everever” Num 24:20KJVKJV translates Num 24:7 “Agag.” SeptuagintSeptuagint translates it “Gog”!Est 3:1 “Haman…the Agagite.” Eze 39:11-15 “Hamon-Gog”!

How Yahweh’s Anointed Gets the King’s Crown

The means by which David obtains the crown and kingship from Saul is miraculous, to say the least. However, the allegory related to this historic event only has significant meaning for those who understand the Gospel and the principles of the Atonement. These astonishing events, again, show that doctrine is strengthened by types; and types must be based upon absolute Truth!

“And it came to pass, when David and his men were come to Ziklag on the third dayon the third day, that the AmalekitesAmalekites had invaded the south, and Ziklag, and smitten Ziklag, and burned it with fire; And had taken the women taken the women captivescaptives, that were therein: they slew not any… but carried them away…And David's David's two wives were taken captivestwo wives were taken captives, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail the wife of Nabal the Carmelite” 1Sam 30:1-2,5As noted, Amalek represents “sin” (1Sam 15:18)The two wives rep. Jew and Gentile, both “under sin” (Rom 3:9)“Captive” reps. being enslaved to “sin” and “death” (2Tim 2:24-3:7)

•These women represent the saints—feminine, the ecclesia—in need of a Savior to redeem them from the power of Amalek. Without the greater Son of David, there would be no hope. Thus, the principles of the Atonement unfold in this event:

“David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him…David encouraged himself in the LORD his Godencouraged himself in the LORD his God… And David enquired at the LORD, saying, Shall I pursue after this troop? shall I overtake them? And he answered him, Pursue: for thou shalt surely overtake them, and without fail recover alland without fail recover all” 1Sam 30:5-7 Like Christ, all men forsook David. He had only God.

The Lord was strengthened by His Father and Assured Victory. Yahweh made Jesus “of quick understanding” (Isa 11:1-5; John 3:34-35); he was “full of the Holy Spirit” (Luke 4:1-2); and the Hand of God “was upon him” (Psa 80:17).

The Lord was assured exaltation for his perfect obedience, even unto death (Phi 2:8-9). Because he willing laid down his life (John 10:17-18), it was not possible for him to be “holden” of the grave (Acts 2:24); and he would “lose nothing” (John 10:26-29; 17:6-12).

“And they found an Egyptian an Egyptian in the field, and brought him to David, and gave him bread, and he did eat; and they made him drink water; And they gave him a piece of a cake of figs, and two clusters of raisins: and when he had eaten, his spirit came his spirit came again to himagain to him: for he had eaten no bread, nor drunk any water, three days and three , three days and three nightsnights” 1Sam 30:11-12Egyptian reps. the natural man, “the body of sin” destroyed in baptism (Rom 6:6; 1Cor 10:1-2). The “three days and three nights” and revival in “spirit” is obviously typical of Christ.

This emphasizes that Jesus shared our nature; partook of “flesh and blood” (Heb 2:14-17); bare “in the body of his flesh” (Col 1:21-22) “the likeness of sinful flesh” (Rom 8:2). And was “crucified through weakness” (2Cor 13:4). “In the days of his flesh” he cried to God to “save him from death” (Heb 5:7-8).

“And David said unto him, To whom belongest thou? and whence art thou? And he said, I am a young man of Egypt, servant servant to an Amalekiteto an Amalekite; and my master left me, my master left me, because three days agone I fell sickbecause three days agone I fell sick” 1Sam 30:13Though related to sin by his very nature (Rom 1:3-4; Job 25:4; Psa 51:5), the Lord destroyed “him that had the power of death, that is, the devil” (Heb 2:14)—SIN PERSONIFIED, AS IS AMALEK.

“Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over death hath no more dominion over himhim”—Rom 6:9

“Now is the judgment of this world: now shall now shall the prince of this world be cast outthe prince of this world be cast out. And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me. This he said, signifying what death what death he should diehe should die” John 12:31-33

“For the prince of this world comeththe prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me” John 14:30

“And David said to him, Canst thou bring me down to this company? And he said, Swear unto me by God, that thou wilt neither kill me, nor deliver me into the neither kill me, nor deliver me into the hands of my masterhands of my master, and I will bring thee down to this company” 1Sam 17:49The resurrection of Christ after 3 days meant he would never again experience sin’s flesh, and therefore sin and death:

“For in that he died, he died unto sin oncehe died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God” Rom 6:10

“The word sin is used in two principal acceptations in the Scripture. It signifies in the first place, “the transgression of the Law”; and in the next, it represents that physical principle of the animal nature…Sin, I say, is a synonym for human nature”—Elpis Israel, pg 126-127

“(Jesus) but was in all points tempted like as tempted like as we are, yet without sinwe are, yet without sin”—Heb 4:15

“He hath made him to be sin for us, who to be sin for us, who knew no sinknew no sin”—2Cor 5:21•“Sin could not have been condemned in the body of Jesus if it had not existed there.”—Elpis Israel, pg 127“As the children are partakers of flesh and flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of blood, he also himself likewise took part of the samethe same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; AND DELIVER THEM WHO THROUGH FEAR OF DEATH WERE ALL THEIR LIFETIME SUBJECT TO BONDAGE. For verily he For verily he took not on him the nature of angels; but he took not on him the nature of angels; but he took on him the seed of Abrahamtook on him the seed of Abraham. Where-fore in all things it behoved him TO BE MADE LIKE UNTO HIS BRETHREN, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest” Heb 2:1-4-18

“And David smote them from the twilight even unto the evening of the next day…And David recovered all that the Amalekites had recovered all that the Amalekites had carried away: and David rescued his two carried away: and David rescued his two wiveswives” 1Sam 30:17-18After he himself revived from “three days and three nights” in the grave, the Lord leads his brethren to battle the Amalekites through “darkness.” The result: Yahweh’s Anointed saves or delivers his two wives.

Isa 61:1-2 “The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidingsgood tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captivesto proclaim liberty to the captives…”

Eph 4:8 “Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity he led captivity captivecaptive, and gave gifts unto men”

“Now it came to pass after the death of Saul, when David was returned from the when David was returned from the slaughter of the Amalekitesslaughter of the Amalekites, and David had abode two days two days in Ziklag; It came even to pass on the third dayon the third day, that, behold, a man came out of the camp from Saul with his clothes rent, and earth upon his head: and so it was, when he came to David, that he fell to the earth, and did obeisance” 2Sam 1:1-2Currently, the Lord is at the right hand of the Father (Psa 110), until he returns to rule in the midst of his enemies. Thus, after TWO MILLENNIAL DAYS, following his own resurrection, the Lord will begin his reign. The events that unfold are truly remarkable; but are only spiritually visible to those who understand the Gospel of the Kingdom of God and the Name of Jesus Christ—

SIN DEFEATED: CROWN AND VICTORY SIN DEFEATED: CROWN AND VICTORY GIVEN TO CHRISTGIVEN TO CHRIST

“David said unto the young man that told him, How knowest thou that Saul and Jonathan his son be dead? And the young man that told him said, As I happened by chance upon mount Gilboa, behold, Saul leaned upon his spear; and, lo, the chariots and horsemen followed hard after him. And when he looked behind him, he saw me, and called unto me. And I answered, Here am I. And he said unto me, Who art thou? And I answered him, I am an AmalekiteI am an Amalekite. He said unto me again, Stand, I pray thee, upon me, and slay me…So I stood upon him, and slew him, because I was sure that he could not live after that he was fallen: and I took the crown that was upon his and I took the crown that was upon his headhead, and the bracelet that was on his arm, , and have brought them hither unto my and have brought them hither unto my lordlord” 2Sam 1:5-10

THE CROWN THE CROWN reps. a reward of everlasting life for overcoming sin—

2Ti 4:8 “Henceforth there is laid up for me a a crown of righteousnesscrown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing”

Jas 1:12 “Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall he shall receive the crown of lifereceive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him”

1Pe 5:4 “when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of gloryye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away” (1Cor 9:25)

Rev 2:10 “Ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give I will give thee a crown of lifethee a crown of life”

Furthermore, this represents the ascension to the throne of David to rule over Yahweh’s people Israel—

Amalek is connected with Gog and therefore represents Yahweh’s Anointed submitting Israel’s enemy and assuming the throne—

Rev 19:11-12 “Behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and Faithful and TrueTrue, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself. And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God”“He answered, I am the son of a stranger, I am the son of a stranger, an Amalekite an Amalekite …And David called one of the young men, and said, Go near, and fall upon him. And he smote him that he died. David said unto him, Thy blood be upon thy Thy blood be upon thy head; for thy mouth hath testified against head; for thy mouth hath testified against thee, saying, I have slain the LORD'S thee, saying, I have slain the LORD'S anointedanointed. ” 2Sam 1:13-16

“And the men of Judah men of Judah came, and there they anointed David king over the house of Judah” 2Sam 2:4

“Solomon and David were types of the Christ, who was to descend from them after the flesh…Hence, as David reigned several years over Judah before he became the recognized sovereign of the whole nation; it behoves that his Son and Lord reign as King of Judah before he become monarch of all the tribes of Israel and kingdoms of the earth. As the “seed of the woman” and “seed of David,” Solomon, whose names means Peace, is appointed King over Israel. Likewise, the Lord Jesus Christ was established as the true seed of David through the resurrection of the dead, and future King of Israel. *One thing a dead man cannot do is exalt himself Phi 2:8-9

By remembrance of the prophetic Oath—Nathan and Bethsheba—David revives to appoint Solomon to sit upon His Throne—
