RESEARCH PAPER Thesis: The history of highlighting and coloring hair

dates back as far as ancient Egyptian times. For a person to get a complete understanding of the procedure of highlighting hair, it is necessary to be knowledgeable of the chemical makeup of hair, the steps to take in order to highlight someone’s hair and the reaction that the dye will have on a person's hair. For someone looking to pursue hair design as a career, it will be important to know the training and experience needed.

Fun Fact 1: The porosity of ones hair will effect how long it will take for the hair dye to process before being removed.

Fun Fact 2: Women in ancient European times would use hair color to indicate class in society.

MY PHYSICAL PROJECT I have spent 15 hours working with my mentor and on my

own to complete this piece of my project. The first 3.5 hours was spent answering mentor questions

and observing her interact in her shop. The next 5 hours was spent observing two full head

highlights and gathering materials. After I received the mannequin I made it look pretty, which

took an hour and a half. (Yes, an hour and a half) I took my mannequin head to my mentor and she trimmed

the hair and showed me techniques on highlighting. This took 2 hours.

I went home and practiced the techniques I was showed. This took 3 hours.

I put those techniques to good use by actually applying bleach this time. This took 2.5 hours

CONCLUSION

Highlighting hair was a very fun thing to learn and do. I do not plan on continuing this as a profession but definitely as a hobby.
