15TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME, JULY 12, 2020 3
Confirmation
- Keep in Prayers
May we add to our daily prayer intentions the 8th grade students of Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish
who will soon receive the outpouring of the Holy Spirit in the Sacrament of Confirmation. Lord, help prepare them for this great event!
WELCOME Bishop Rhoades - Coming to St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Due to pandemic guidelines, we are having 3 separate Masses for Confirmation. Bishop Rhoades will be celebrating Holy Mass with Confirmation on the following dates and times: Thursday, July 16 - 7:00 pm Friday, July 17, 7:00 pm Saturday, July 18, 9:00 am (Note: due to pandemic guidelines, these Masses are not open to the public)
Fidelis Accolade Ceremony - This Tuesday, after the 6:00 pm evening Mass, we will give special recognition and honor to many of those involved in the girls Fidelis program. Fidelis is a wonderful youth outreach of our Parish which brings
to the girls and young women involved a vibrant example of the Catholic Faith, along with fun, smiles and God's joy. I thank all involved! God bless!
NEW & IMPROVED - New video Camera for Church
Parish staff member Trisha Trout mentioned the other day how many really nice comments we have received about how wonderful the internet showing of Holy Mass, Holy Hour and other Liturgical event looks! As mentioned earlier, this was due to the hard work of Rob Slocum and Ben Rinzel who hooked everything up, along with a grant we received from the Center for Congregations. Keep watching!
Pandemic Mass Schedule - for Weekday Mass
Due the pandemic, we have only 2 Priests here at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton. Fr. Luke (from Nigeria) is unable to enter the United States at this time. Because of this, the weekday Mass schedule, effective immediately is as follows Monday: 9:00 am Tuesday: 9:00 am, 6:00 pm Wednesday: 9:00 am, 6:00 pm (8:00 am - Women's Care Center 2x a month) Thursday: 9:00 am Friday: 6:30 am, 9:00 am Saturday: 9:00 am Note: The Sacrament of Confession will be offered AFTER most 9 am and 6:00 pm Masses. School events, Funerals, etc. may limit this at times. Confessions WILL BE HEARD every Saturday from 9:30 - 10:30 am. Confessions (during pandemic) are heard in the Divine Mercy Chapel or Priests Sacristy.
Dear St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, As the Liturgy of the Word concludes we enter into the centerpiece of the Mass: The Liturgy of the Eucharist. The offertory is all too often overlooked as the time the priest quietly mumbles some words, while we get out our wallets and the next family on the Price is Right gets to bring up the wine and bread (the gifts). The intrinsic reality of the offertory is man’s offering of himself to God that he may be made into a new man. Lumen Gentium a Vatican II document speaks about this: Man offers his labors, his joys, his sorrows, his ordinary life to God through Jesus Christ made present on the Altar. Man offers his life as a gift back to God. This is the lay man’s vocational call in life to consecrate the world itself to God. Everything in a man’s life goes to the Altar and is made holy through the perfect sacrifice. This is made clearer when the priest fills the chalice with wine and mixes water. The priest says, “By the mystery of this water and wine may we come to share in the divinity of Christ who humbled himself to share in our humanity.” Christ is making all things new in and through the sacrifice of the Mass this should give us hope amidst any cross we bear if we bring it to the Altar. We must offer it to God. As we present it to The Lord we in faith know it is presented to the Father. Our crosses or our gifts of self, in union with the perfect sacrifice of Christ, cannot be refused by The Father. Thus in and through the Sacrifice of the Mass we are consecrating the world to Christ. Making the scripture verses of Romans 8:18-25 more fulfilled by bringing God to all the corners of the world. -Seminarian Holden

5 SEEK TO GROW IN CHRIST
A Still Small Voice I recently became a foster mom to two adorable kittens. When it became time to give them up, my heart broke inside. I found myself begging God for an answer. Can I really give them up? Can I keep one? For days I felt no direction, then after surrendering the babies for their spay and neuter surgery, I once again approached God in prayer still asking if I could reclaim one. This time, I felt a deep unexplainable peace. I felt for sure I knew what this meant. I went to the shelter after work in the hopes to claim one, but my babies were already adopted. My heart broke and instantly I became very angry with God. I had already given them up once, but because I believed I had felt His direction, it now seemed I had lost them a second time. I blamed God for the peace He had given me, and internally yelled at Him on my way home. It hurt worse, because I felt betrayed by Him. I didn’t understand. While God can certainly handle our anger, often these feelings against Him are misplaced, like mine were. If I had listened closer, I probably would have realized the peace He was giving me was strength to let them go or confidence that He had wonderful homes picked out for them. Even with His direction, I wasn’t really listening to what He was trying to tell me, but instead, was manipulating it to hear what I wanted to hear. It is so easy to do this in our time of prayer, and like me, this often leads
to anger at God. Why didn’t He answer a prayer the way we thought He would? While we can most certainly learn how to listen to God better, if we aren’t careful, the devil can sneak his words into our thoughts and convince us that it is God speaking. St. Faustina herself, when receiving visions of Jesus, was obedient to her spiritual director, trusting that if it wasn’t really Jesus speaking to her, he would help lead her away from these voices. If a spiritual visionary like St. Faustina is astute enough to recognize that even when we think it is Jesus talking to us, it may be our own voice instead, how much more confidence should this give us that we are not alone in this spiritual battle? Elijah also teaches us in the Old Testament that God usually comes not in big grand gestures, but in the stillness and whispers around us. He waited through strong wind, an earthquake, fire, and yet it was in a low whisper that God revealed Himself to Elijah. This isn’t meant to discourage us when we consider the difficulties in hearing God, but encourage. Our anger and frustration might not be at God Himself but at our inability to hear Him. And God is just waiting to help us! What does it take to hear Him? Quiet. Stillness. Both of these qualities are very difficult to find in the world today, but are essential for us to grow closer in our relationship with the Lord. Take time for daily prayer. Close your eyes, turn off the TV, hide in a closet if you have to, but practice listening to the silence rather than listening to your own thoughts. This is incredibly difficult and won’t happen in a day, but if we persevere, if we keep going forward, we will find God has been trying to speak with us all along. -Trisha Trout
