William Snow, who is known as “Willie,” will arrive on Saturday, May 13 and will be with us through late July. Willie grew up and went to school in New York City, so this will be his first prolonged exposure to “country” life. During this time, Willie will live with Fr. Jeff and me in the rectory. He will participate in every facet of our daily routine: Sunday and weekday Mass, baptisms and baptism interviews, weddings, marriage preparation, funerals, burials, teaching, visiting the sick, and everything in between. Willie will be here in two weeks (May 6/7) to introduce himself and to share some of his story. Please pray for him, and offer him a warm welcome to Goshen! + + + At the same time, we bid farewell to Deacon Kareem Smith, whose assignment to us concludes next weekend. Kareem will be assigned to a parish elsewhere for the next year, after which time, God willing, he will be or- dained to the priesthood. We will then have him back to St. John’s to celebrate Mass, and to congratulate him. Fr. Jeff and I are most grateful for Kareem’s service to us over the past few months; he has been a tremendous help, especially during Holy Week, and he’s been a welcome presence in the house. Please continue to pray for him, especially as he begins this next chapter in his service to the Lord and His Church. + + + While we’re on greetings and farewells: there will be a familiar face in our midst this summer. Fr. Peter Heasley, who is currently working on his doctorate in biblical theology, will be returning to St. John’s as our “summer helper.” He will arrive on or around June 24, and will be with us for two months. This will afford Fr. Jeff and me the opportunity for some vacation; we’ll stagger those weeks, so that one of us is always here. + + + In last week’s bulletin, I announced a pilgrimage to the Holy Land, to take place in February 2018. The nucle- us of the group will be members of the Archdiocesan Festival Chorale; this is a group of singers from through- out the archdiocese, who sing at major liturgies like the Chrism Mass and ordinations (the group will be per- forming a concert or two while we’re in the Holy Land). This will be the third such trip for Dr. Jennifer Pas- cual, who directs the chorale and is the impetus behind this journey. Because of Jenny’s familiarity with the area and the routine, she was able to request that specific sites be included on the itinerary. As I noted, this pilgrimage is open to everyone, singers and non-singers alike. There are some brochures at the back of the church; I’ve also posted it on the parish website. If you’d like more information, please see the printed material or speak with me. Faithfully your priest, Fr. George Hafemann

SECOND SUNDAY OF EASTER - APRIL 23, 2017

I am happy to share the news that a seminarian has been assigned to St. John’s for a summer pastoral intern-ship.
