Synchrophasor Systems Roadmap Development
Providing real-time visibility into power system conditions
Synchronized measurement technology can help improve the real-time monitoring, pro-
tection, automation and control of utility power systems to deal with the increasingly high
level of Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) and the growing reliability and power qual-
ity requirements from customers. Synchrophasors not only help prevent outages or other
system disturbances, they can save the utility money by helping to reduce operating
costs. Quanta Technology has extensive expertise and experience in large-scale produc-
tion-grade synchrophasor technology deployment projects with utilities of all sizes. As
synchrophasor technology cuts across all the areas of the electric power system, Quanta
Technology is uniquely positioned to support utilities with system-wide deployment of the
technology based on business needs and benefits.
Quanta Technology is an active participant in the promotion, implementation and devel-
opment of the synchrophasor technology. As such, we are quite versed in virtually all
aspects of deployment and development of synchrophasor technology roadmaps. How-
ever, we know that the best quality outcomes are achieved when our consulting experi-
ence is combined with strong local participation from the utility client, its project partner
teams and various stakeholders to develop this important technology roadmap.
Our initial approach for roadmap development consists of:
Identifying key stakeholders
Understanding the current implemented synchrophasor system, corporate policies
and preferences
Identifying budgetary dynamics and constraints
Assessing industry synchrophasor trends
Reviewing regulatory requirements
There are many power system applications that either require or could benefit from the
use of the synchrophasor technology, and should be considered part of a utility’s overall
grid modernization efforts. The next page describes some of the most recent synchro-
phasor projects Quanta Technology has completed with both domestic and international
electric utilities.
