Artistic Director Dr Steven Stanke
Symphony Central Coast “Excite, entrance and inspire through musical excellence”
02
To celebrate our new name, Symphony Central Coast, and a new performance venue, we present a wonderful program of stunningly beautiful music and outstanding soloists. Our season starts in March with a concert
performance of Bizet's most memorable and loved opera, Carmen, featuring some of the Central Coast's and Sydney's rising opera stars and our long-time performance partner, Central Coast Philharmonia.
In June we welcome one of Sydney's most accomplished flautists, Svetlana Yaroslavskaya, to perform the charming and expressive Flute Concerto by Jacques Ibert (or Jackie Bear if you're short of time).
STEVEN STANKE
Artistic Director's Message
03
We also explore the stunning vistas and creative nationalism in Sibelius' First Symphony and the buzzing energy of Vaughan Williams' overture The Wasps, written as incidental music for a performance of Aristophanes' play at Trinity College, Cambridge.
Our September concert sweeps you away with 'classic' orchestral favourites, as we perform some of our most requested pieces. Mozart, Tchaikovsky, Mussorgsky, Albinoni: composers you know and love give their most memorable and exciting works. We also continue our exploration of contemporary works by local composers, featuring the Concerto for Trumpet by Joe Wolfe, a longtime member of the SCC.
In December, pianist Carl Schmidt performs Schubert's colossal 'Wanderer' Fantasy and we conclude our 2015 subscription series with Tchaikovsky's towering monument to Fate, his Fourth Symphony.
Come with us on our 2015 symphonic voyage!

Performed in English
Spanish heat and gypsy passion are brought to life in Bizet's most memorable opera – Carmen. This smouldering femme fatale is one of the most captivating heroines in opera and obsession turns deadly when her gypsy seductions ensnare a love-struck soldier and a swaggering toreador. A riveting drama of love and jealousy, Bizet's Carmen is filled with alluring melodies and captivating dances and is rightly one of the world's most popular operas.

St. Petersburg State Conservatory trained Svetlana Yaroslavskayaperforms Jacques Ibert's much-loved Flute Concerto, a work full of humour, virtuosity and intense technical challenges. Although Sibelius denied any extramusical meaning to his symphonies, there is no doubt that his First is a tribute to the Finnish landscape and the patriotic struggle of the Finnish people. Barber's achingly beautiful Adagio is the perfect elegy – lyrical, searing, poignant.

PYOTR TCHAIKOVSKYSymphony no. 4
Carl Schmidt plays Schubert's 1822 “Wanderer” Fantasy - one of his boldest and most ingenious works: symphonic in outlook, proudly heroic and technically challenging for all but the most accomplished pianists. Tchaikovsky's mighty fourth symphony is his study into the nature of fate and Brahms Academic Festival is a medley of rowdy student songs and a tonguein - cheek 'thank you' for an honorary degree from the University of Breslau.
Destiny, heroism and humour!
