Sketch: An Alternative to the Adobe Hegemony*
*for interface design
“The number of its features that are truly helpful for UX and UI designers comprise maybe twenty percent of the whole app. So to use Photoshop for this purpose is to shoulder that outstanding, largely useless eighty per cent of features.”
—Khoi Vinh, Design Director, NYTimes.com
• You need it? Photoshop does it
• PSD is the de facto industry standard
• Allows for an obsessive level of pixel-level artistic detail
• Finally has editable corner radius and area type convert
• Bloated
• Save for Web should be a misdemeanor crime
• Not ready for the mobile era and workflow
• Took a decade to get corner radius/area type convert
• The most precise and advanced vector drawing tool
• Excellent for wireframing, also creates precise assets
• Master pages, artboards
• Object-oriented rather than layer-based philosophy
• The most awful workflow ever devised by man
• Seriously, I just want a basic inner shadow
• Buggy, unreliable pixel measurements
• Exploitative pricing — only Cloud from now on
