Public Health Presentations
• We are Engineering World Health• General awareness towards international
health issues is very important• 1-2 Presentations per week• ~5-10 minutes each• A few discussion questions• afterwards
List of Public Health Issues• HIV/AIDS.• Tuberculosis.• Diabetes.• Malnutrition.• Malaria.• Rabies.• Vitamin B12 deficiencies.• Calcium deficiencies.• Occupational health
problems.• Stomach cancer.• Colon cancer.
• Cataracts.• Arthritis.• Epilepsy.• Depression.• Environmental factors on
health problems.• Neglected tropical
diseases.• Microbiomes.• Pregnancy.• Water sanitation.• Eradication of disease.
Computer Design Lesson
• Research may be fun, but change does not happen without design
• Think => Design => Prototype => Produce• We will teach you the basics the first few
months, then you will show us what you learned
AutoCAD (2D)
• First two months– AutoCAD is a multi-purpose 2D modeling software– Will cover basic functions and capabilities of the
software– Useful for creating basic sketches of your project
design– Free for all students! Download from official
website.
SolidWorks (3D)
• Four meetings thereafter– SolidWorks is the industry standard 3D modeling
software and can be used for simulations– Useful for creating virtual models of project
designs with specific features included– Will be taught if time permits and we can get a
license
Attendance• Please come to class; the presentations,
design lectures, and project interactions are important for a full experience
• We will tolerate up to 3 unexcused absences• Additional project meetings may be required,
see project leaders for more info.• Meetings every week unless notified!
Final
• 30 question multiple choice exam• Based off of public health (75%) and design
lectures (25%)• Minimum of 50% needed to pass
Class Semester Project
• All members required to participate• We do have outside project groups sponsored
by the club– Email the club and/or project group leaders if
interested– To be done in your own personal time and for fun!
Tissue Culture Hood• Provides a sterile workspace suitable for cell
and tissue research.
