Narrative

CHARACTERS• Harry : The good friend who wears the white

band.• Ben: The bad friend who wears the black band.• Lucy: Harry’s sister• Harry’s Mother

Todorov Narrative Theory

• Equilibrium: Harry and Ben are friends.• Disruption: Ben knocks out Harry, swaps their

identities, kills Lucy and tries to trick Harry’s Mother.

• Recognition: Harry’s Mother releases that what he’s telling her is true.

• Repair: Harry’s Mother tells him to stay in Ben’s body.

• New Equilibrium: Harry keeps Ben’s identity to escape prison.

AGE• Our Target audience is 13-25 year olds.• Films with genres Fantasy and Thriller are aimed

GENDER• Characters are of both genders and so

Switched should appeal to both genders.

LOCATION• Switched is set inside of an ordinary

working class home and so is likely to appeal to an audience from a working class background.

Genre• Switched is a Hybrid of Fantasy and Thriller.

FANTASY• Supernatural events – Ben and Harry swap

identities.• Magic – Wristbands• Escapism – Harry tries to escape the magic of

the wristbands and when he finds he can’t he accepts his fate in order to escape prison.

THRILLER

• Shock – Ben knocks out his friend Harry unexpectedly.

• Suspense/Tension – Lucy drinks poisoned drink.• Anxiety – Harry’s mother don’t believe him.• Uncertainty – Whether Harry’s mum will believe him.• Plot twist – Harry has to compromise and keep Ben’s

identity and lose his own.• Cliff hanger- Harry looking like Ben tells the Police to

come in.

• POV shots – To show what the character sees – e.g. Ben sees Harry’s reflection when he looks in the mirror.
