(Submitted photo) THE final brick of Stratford’s new cancer and eye hospital was laid last week during a topping out ceremony on the building’s roof. Director of development at the South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust, Jayne Blacklay, was given the honour of placing the final brick accompanied by chief executive Glen Burley and contractors from Speller Metcalfe. A great deal of the construction at the £22million hos- pital has already been completed, and much of the scaf- folding is expected to come down in the next few weeks. Glen Burley said: “It’s incredible when you come here and see the size of the building. As somebody who grew up in Stratford it’s great that we are seeing one of the best hospitals of its kind in the NHS going up here. “The local community should be proud of all the hard work they have put into fundraising, that money will help us enhance facilities and turn this into a spectacular building. To think that this time next year we will be treating patients here is very exciting. “Having such a great facility will also help us retain and attract great staff here in Stratford.” Jayne Blacklay said it had been an honour to lay the final brick at the new hospital, adding that it was very exciting to see how construction of the building was pro- gressing. John Mackay, Construction Manager at Speller Met- calfe, the contractor for the multi-million pound scheme, added: “We are absolutely delighted to be at such a key milestone for the new hospital development, which by completion will already be in high demand for patients in Stratford and further afield. “As our third project with The Trust, it is clear that they are fundamentally committed to providing the best care services available and we are looking forward to delivering the completed project in 2017.” The Stratford Cancer and Eye Hospital Appeal is well on the way to reaching its £1million fundraising target, with £815,525 raised so far and organisers hopeful of reaching the target by the end of 2016. The new hospital will house cancer services; the Rigby Unit on the top floor, which will include 12 chemotherapy treatment chairs, two emergency treat- ment rooms and a range of facilities to support patients such as a complementary therapy room. It will also include an eye unit on the first floor with eight outpatient consulting rooms, three treatment rooms as well as a dedicated area for children to wait. At SG Doors we specialise in the fi tting of bespoke double skinned, insulated, remote control, electric roller garage doors that can be supplied to your specifi cations, including a range of different colours.
Essentially a Roller Garage Door is an insulated double skin aluminium curtain protecting your garage. With the double side brush in the guide runners and a curtain that rolls right to the fl oor, it is good for excluding draughts as well as effi cient and convenient at both restricting and allowing access to the garage.
FOAM FILLED INSULATED ALUMINIUM SLATS
SAFER THAN CONVENTIONAL Garage DOORSThe space saving allows you to park close to the garage door with no risk and also saves space inside the garage, giving you access to roof joists that would have otherwise been occupied by the garage doors. It also removes the danger of outward swinging garage doors striking unseen persons or objects outside.
The design of Roller Garage Doors means they are effi cient space savers; rather than swinging the door to the side or outwards in front of the garage, the garage door roller system means the doors roll directly up into a top roll system mounted above the door frame.

DANCERS from the local McCarthy-FeltonSchool of Irish Dancing entertained guests atBidford’s Dementia Café at Westholme Courtrecently. Dancers, Kahlila Renardson, MadeleineDale and sisters Katrina and Stephanie Perkins, received a warm ovation from those present andpromised to return again soon.
District’s dementiafigures are on riseSHOCKING statisticsrevealed in a new“dementia atlas” pub-lished recently by theDepartment of Healthreveal that 2,276 southWarwickshire residentsaged 65 and over areliving with dementia.
Coupled with statisticsfrom 2015 compiled byNHS England, which show
that the largest projectedincrease in the prevalenceof dementia in those aged65 and over is in the Strat-ford district, this presents aworrying picture for thehealth of residents in thetown and the surroundingarea.
It is predicted that the sit-uation could worsen, givenStratford’s ageing popula-tion, with a 64 per centincrease in the number of
those aged 65 and overexpected by 2037.
Heather Brown, whomanages WarwickshireReminiscence Action Pro-ject’s (WRAP) dementiacafé in Wellesbourne, said:“A lot more needs to bedone to equalise andstrengthen the level of sup-port and care for those resi-dents living with dementiain Stratford district and thecounty as a whole.”

Under the Localism Act 2011 the Council is looking to appoint an Independent Person to help the Monitoring Officer in assessing complaints of alleged misconduct by members of the Council and Town and Parish Councils within the District.
Each Council has a code of conduct setting out the standards of behaviour expected of its members. If a complaint is made, the Independent Person is consulted for an independent and impartial view before a decision is made on what to do.
We are looking for someone with the experience and knowledge that the public would recognise and respect as bringing an impartial and informed perspective. To ensure your voice is independent there are restrictions on who can apply; you must not be a member or an officer of the Council or a Parish Council within the District or be a relative or a close friend of such a member or officer.
The appointment will come into effect on 1 July 2017 for an initial period of four years, with the possibility that the period may be extended. Appropriate training will be given. A small allowance and any necessary expenses will be paid by the Council.
If you are interested in being an Independent Person please contact Phil Grafton, Monitoring Officer for an information pack and application form:-
Phil Grafton, Monitoring Officer Stratford-on-Avon District Council Elizabeth House, Stratford-upon-Avon CV37 6HX
Completed application forms should be received by Friday 28 October 2016. Short-listed applicants will be advised of the date and time of interview in due course.

Masons Road, Stratford-upon-AvonNext home game - Saturday 8th October - Dunstable - League - 3.00pm kick off
Adams happyas Town extendunbeaten runSTRATFORD Town boss CarlAdams was happy with theefforts of his players as theyextended their unbeaten awayrecord with a 0-0 draw at Cam-bridge City on Saturday.
Town were looking to put the pre-vious weekend’s five-goal drubbingby Weymouth behind them, while hosts Cambridge wereattempting to end a run of fourstraight defeats.
The game petered out into a drabcontest of few chances, but Adamswas satisfied to come away with apoint from the ProEdge Stadium.
“At least we kept our unbeatenaway record in the league going,”said the Town boss.
“After last weekend it waspleasing to keep a clean sheet andwe had to work hard to secure a
point. We came here to win thegame, but it was also important afterthe Weymouth game that we didn’tlose. To that extent today was a pos-itive result for us.”
Stratford’s best chance ofbreaking the deadlock arrived in the70th minute.
A mistake by Cambridge centraldefender David Femiola allowedSimeon Tulloch a clear run on goal, but he could only shoot against theadvancing Enol Ordonez.
Ordonez also parried a drive fromEdwin Ahenkorah, who then hit therebound against the outside of theupright.
Town return to action on Tuesdaynight, when they make the short tripto Redditch United for a SouthernLeague Cup tie, before returning tothe DCS on Saturday to take onDunstable Town.
