The American Cancer Society Relay for Life event took place on Saturday, April 30th, from 3 pm until 6 am the next morning, at the Delaware Field House at the University of Delaware. A lot of members participated in the event, and we always had at least two people walking the indoor track, and sometimes had a big group, which was a lot of fun! There was so much to do there, from the scavenger hunt, a red bull pong tournament, to zumba and dance parties. I cheered my friend on in a wing eating contest, got a henna, played with some adorable puppies, and so much more.

I was there from 3 pm until 9 pm, and then came back at 1 am, just in time for a rave at 2 am! The time flew by as we walked the track and joined in the activities. At one table, you could get a string, and for every lap you walked, you could add a bead to the string and eventually make a bracelet. By the end of the night, I had 28 beads! My favorite part of the night would have to be when Kiwanis came at 3 am to make us pancakes. Everyone woke right up when they smelled those delicious cinnamon pancakes. That was the perfect way to end the night (or morning) and I am thankful for Kiwanis and everyone else who came to have a wonderful time and fight for a great cause!

On April 30th of this year, our very own Circle K chapter was fortunate enough to be able to volunteer for the Senior Olympics. The Senior Olympics was held at the PAL Center in Hockessin and involved games of 3 on 3 Basketball. Teams competed head to head in two quarters to claim the title of 1st place. These games were nothing short of intense as the senior citizens played the court filled with energy and overall team spirit. Circle K had the ultimate privilege of keeping

score during each game. Every one of our members that contributed had the time of their lives keeping up with the scores and getting to know the game of Basketball on a whole new level. Circle K considered it an honor to be able to interact with the players on the teams and to be able to lend a hand of service whenever help was needed.

A few weeks ago, UD’s Circle K celebrated 35 years of service, fiesta-style! In honor of our growth and achievements in the past 35 years as an RSO at the University of Delaware, we held an anniversary dinner at our President Christine's apartment. We were lucky enough to be joined by Ethan from Salisbury CKI, Governor Mikail from Liberty CKI, and District Secretary-Treasurer Ben of HSC CKI. They drove for hours in the pouring rain to make it to the dinner- that's true dedication! Our Kiwanis Lieutenant Governor Patty and her adorable daughter also joined us for food and fun. The event took place

a couple days before Cinco de Mayo, so we celebrated with fiesta-style decorations and menu. We dined on nachos, home-made guacomole, virgin margaritas, mexican hot chocolate, chips and salsa, and tacos. For dessert, the e-board made a delicious array of cupcakes and cookies. For a fun treat, we also ate candy from a pinata! Trying to knock down the pinata was a blast! All participants were blind-folded and had to wear a Mexican mustache. It took the strength of many able-bodied participants to break it open, and Patty’s daughter Kahlynn was quick to snatch all the candy up. We also completed a service project, making pictures for children at our service projects to color later, and Christine made a few touching remarks about our success and how much the club means to her. All in all, it was a fun-filled night! Thank you again to the e-board, social committee, our traveling guests, and anyone else who helped to make the event run smoothly!

Manor House is a nursing home that is walking distance from West Campus and each Saturday Circle K members go and join the residents while they play BINGO. There have been anywhere from one to five CKI members who attend every week. All the residents are adorably sweet and BINGO is the highlight of their week so they really do enjoy when Circle K comes and plays with them. I love seeing how excited they get whenever they win a game and cute remarks they make if they lose. It is really

simple, all the residents want is someone to chat with for an hour or so. I definitely recommend taking an hour out of your Saturday to go to Manor House at least once because after that you’ll be hooked!

Elkton Kiwanis Club’s Annual Lemonade Stand

Who knew being covered in sticky lemons and sugar could be so much fun! This past summer I worked the lemonade stand for a few days with our Elkton Kiwanis club. The lemonade stand was at the Cecil County fair. It was brutally hot the first day I worked and I was dreading the event until I got there. Our Kiwanians showed

me the steps to make the refreshing lemonade. I jumped right in and started to shake cups of lemonade as well as squeeze lemons. I forgot about the heat and had so much fun at this event. A few other Circle K members were volunteering with me so we were able to spend time together as well as get to know our fellow kiwanians. There were even times we were making 10-15 cups of lemonade at a time! This event was probably my favorite event so far and I have been actively involved in Circle K for two years! I cannot wait for this summer to help out with this event again!
