Sunset to Sunrise A person shall not cause a vessel to travel at a speed exceeding 10 knots in any ‘non speed restricted area’ of the Swan and Canning Rivers between the hours of sunset and sunrise. Canning River A person shall not cause a vessel to travel at a speed exceeding 5 knots upstream of the Canning Bridge except inside the Mount Pleasant Water Ski Area between the hours of 9am and sunset. Vessels 20 metres or more in length A person shall not cause a vessel of 20 metres or more in length to travel at a speed exceeding 8 knots in the designated areas in Matilda Bay and Mosman Bay. PERSONAL WATER CRAFT (PWC) PWC Freestyling PWC Freestyling is prohibited in the Swan and Canning Rivers except in the designated PWC Freestyling Area in South Perth. Closed Waters to PWC Swan River: All waters upstream of the Windan Bridge. Canning River: All waters upstream of Salter Point. Belmont Water Ski Area: All waters the Belmont Water Ski Areas are closed to PWC. Other Water Ski Areas: All water ski areas in the Swan and Canning Rivers are closed to navigation of PWC unless conducting water ski operations or transiting directly through. Marine Parks: All waters of the Milyu, Pelican Point and Alfred Cove Marine Parks. PRIVATE MOORINGS It is an offence to use a yellow mooring if you do not have authorisation from the Department. Penalties apply. COURTESY MOORINGS The use of courtesy moorings is restricted to a four hour limit between the hours of 7am and 7pm CLOSED WATERS AREAS Motorised Vessels: All designated waters at Point Direction, Point Walter, Matilda Bay, Deepwater Point and Cracknell Park (refer map) are closed to motorised vessels. SPEED BOAT AREA Heirisson Island Speed Boat Area: All designated waters of the Heirisson Island Speed Boat Area are under the control of and set aside for the use of the WA Council of the Australian Power Boat Association. This area is closed to navigation of other vessels unless approved by that body. CRAB POTS Fairways and Channels: The placement of crab pots in fairways and channels is prohibited without approval of the Department. Water Ski Areas: All water ski areas of the Swan and Canning Rivers are considered to be fairways during hours of operation. The placement of crab pots in fairways is prohibited without approval of the Department. All vessels are requested to use the recommended track when navigating around Rocky Bay. The launching ramp at the Narrows PWC area is only for the use of PWCs, no boats are allowed to use ramp for launching and retrieving (except for commercial ski operator and commercial parasail operator). A boating guide for the Swan Canning Riverpark
SPEED RESTRICTIONS
General Speed Limit
A person shall not cause a motor vessel to travel at a speed exceeding 8 knots:
• throughthearchofabridge (except the Mt Henry Bridge);
• inorthroughamooringarea;
• inanywatershavingadepthoflessthan 3 metres (except in a ski area);
• within15metresofavesselunderway;
• within45metresof–
∙ a moored vessel;
∙ apersoninthewater;
∙ ajettyorwharf;
∙ ariverbankorlowwatermark.
Sunset to Sunrise A person shall not cause a vessel to travel ataspeedexceeding10knotsinany‘nonspeedrestrictedarea’oftheSwanandCanningRiversbetweenthehoursofsunsetandsunrise.
Canning River
A person shall not cause a vessel to travel ataspeedexceeding5knotsupstreamofthe Canning Bridge except inside the Mount PleasantWaterSkiAreabetweenthehoursof9amandsunset.
Vessels 20 metres or more in length
Apersonshallnotcauseavesselof20metres or more in length to travel at a speed exceeding 8 knots in the designated areas in MatildaBayandMosmanBay.
PERSONAL WATER CRAFT (PWC)
PWC Freestyling PWCFreestylingisprohibitedintheSwanand Canning Rivers except in the designated PWCFreestylingAreainSouthPerth.
Closed Waters to PWC
Swan River: AllwatersupstreamoftheWindanBridge.
Canning River: AllwatersupstreamofSalterPoint.
Belmont Water Ski Area: AllwaterstheBelmontWaterSkiAreasareclosedtoPWC.
Other Water Ski Areas: AllwaterskiareasintheSwanandCanningRiversareclosedtonavigationofPWCunlessconductingwaterskioperationsortransitingdirectlythrough.
Heirisson Island Speed Boat Area: AlldesignatedwatersoftheHeirissonIslandSpeedBoatAreaareunderthecontrolofandsetasidefortheuseoftheWACounciloftheAustralianPowerBoatAssociation.Thisareaisclosedtonavigationofothervesselsunlessapprovedbythatbody.

Fairways and Channels: TheplacementofcrabpotsinfairwaysandchannelsisprohibitedwithoutapprovaloftheDepartment.
Water Ski Areas: AllwaterskiareasoftheSwanandCanningRiversareconsideredtobefairwaysduringhoursofoperation.TheplacementofcrabpotsinfairwaysisprohibitedwithoutapprovaloftheDepartment.
All vessels are requested to use the recommended
track when navigating around Rocky Bay.
The launching ramp at the Narrows PWC area is only for the use of PWCs, no boats are allowed to use ramp for launching and retrieving (except for commercial ski operator and commercial parasail operator).

Boating to keep our rivers healthy
• Take care to minimise your boatwash. Wash can damage shorelines,injurepeople,disturbnestingandfeedingbirds,damagemooredboatsandinterferewithotherpeople’senjoymentoftheRiverpark.
• Take home your tenders, dinghies and boats or use a Trust approved storage facility.Leavingthemontheforeshorecandamagevegetationandpreventaccesstoshorelines.
• Prevent antifouling and cleaning agents, paint, solvents and other chemicals from polluting the Riverpark. Make sure you only undertakeboatmaintenanceinareaswhereharmfulresiduescanbecollectedanddisposedofproperly.
• Launch and retrieve your boat, tenders or other watercraft without disturbing riverside vegetation or damaging riverbanks. Boats may only be launched from trailers at the boat ramps shown in this Boating Guide. Riverside plants play an important part inkeepingtheRiverparkhealthy.Theyprovideshelterfornativewildlife,preventerosionandhelpkeepbanksstable.Riversideplantshelpfilteroutthenutrientsthatcantriggeralgalblooms.
• Make sure fuel and oil never go into the rivers by keeping your engine serviced. Install and regularly change an oil absorbent bilge mat. Refuel carefully and clean up any spillages. ThiswillsaveyoumoneyandprotecttheRiverpark’shealth.Fuelandoilcanharmorkillaquaticplantsandanimals.
• Always take care to avoid disturbing wildlife. Travelling at high speedintheRiverparkstressesbirdsandinterfereswiththeirfeedingactivities.Four-wheeldrivescandamageforeshorevegetation,soleaveyourvehicleontheroadandprotectwildlifehabitat.
• Take your rubbish with you. Store it on board and dispose of it properly in bins or take it home.LitterdestroysthescenicbeautyoftheRiverpark,plasticcaninjurewildlifeandbrokenglassisahazard.
• Only anchor in areas clear of seagrass and never tie up to shoreline trees. Use the red courtesy moorings provided by the Swan River Trust.Theirlocationsareshowninthisboatingguide,butrememberthereisafourhourlimitbetween7amand7pm.Carelessmooringandtyinguptotreesdamagesshorelineandriverbedvegetation.
Personal water craftApersonalwatercraft(PWC)–oftencalledajetski–isacraftpropelledbyaninboardmotorpoweringawaterjetpump.Theoperatorsits,standsorkneelsanduseshandlebarstosteerit.
