Swampscott Middle School PTO AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM 8 week Fall session September 25 th – November 17 th O 17 th 8 weeks $60 per student PLUSHIE CREATION - TUESDAY Do you love collecting plushies? What if you could create your own? In this class led by Ms. Moore, you can create a plushie of your favorite character or an original creation. You will also learn how to affix hair, glue eyes, as well as make clothes and accessories. ROBLOX CLUB - TUESDAY This club will allow you to play Roblox with all your friends in the same room. Also a great club to join if you are interested in trying out the game and want to learn how to code within Roblox. Led by Mrs. Poverchuk. COMPUTER CLUB - FRIDAY Do you like to use computers to create things, play games, and have fun? Spend Friday afternoon working on your favorite Scratch program, or maybe you just need to get to level 43 of your favorite game! Whatever it may be, if it is computer related, this club is for you. Led by Mrs. Poverchuk. ULTIMATE FRISBEE CLUB - MONDAY JOIN ULTIMATE FRISBEE! Learn the game of Ultimate Frisbee with Mr. Truboff and develop skills in throwing, catching, and playing together as a team. This is a club sport and students should dress appropriately for athletic activity. OUTDOOR SCULPTURE DESIGNS - TUESDAY Research, design and create 3D clay sculptures with Ms. Harris for our new space out in front of the school. Smaller prototypes will be made individually and can be brought home, while we col- laborates on one larger project to install permanently in the outdoor space. For 7th and 8th graders only! Ten students only! NEWSPAPER CLUB - WEDNESDAY “The Atlantic Compass” is a student-generated newspaper entering its 11th year of publication that serves the middle school and town community. Led by Mr. Lewis and Mrs. Poverchuk. You can view past publications on the Middle School website. COMPUTER CLUB FRIDAY JUST FOR FUN ART WEDNESDAYS - WEDNESDAY In this class students will discover the artist within by creating works of art using many different mediums. Projects will include paper mache, multi-media collage, sewing, and sculpture. These projects will be colorful and fun and will allow you to use your imagination and express yourself by making art. Led by parent Heather Goodwin. For 5th and 6th graders only! J a c e PODCASTING - TUESDAY Podcasting is a simple and effective way to use audio to tell news stories. The portability of personal music players—like the iPod and iPhone have made podcasts the wave of the future and now! Using new podcasting equipment, you will learn to produce, write, and publish podcasts on topics of your own choosing! Led by Mr. Schwartz. For 7th and 8th graders only! DODGEBALL - WEDNESDAY Join Mr. Brown in the Gym to play a variety of dodgeball games while learning teamwork and sportsmanship. Students must wear sneakers. BASKETBALL CLUB - WEDNESDAY Boston Celtics Fan? Golden State Warriors Fan? Come meet to discuss current events in the world of basketball. We will look at contracts, trades, competition, and the overall game. The first half of the club will be discussion and debate. The 2nd half will focus on playing. Led by Mr. Truboff. For 7th and 8th graders only! Students should dress appropriately for athletic activity. We’ll start a variety of lettuces in the SMS Greenhouse to transplant later to the Cafe’s hydroponic farm wall and in November we’ll prepare a tribute to Swampscott Veterans. Led by Ms. Anderson. Bring gardening gloves and wear clothes that can get dirty.

Swampscott Middle School PTOAFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM

The PTO administers 3 eight-week sessions of an After School Program at the Swampscott Middle School that is open to grades 5th – 8th. The Fall 2017 session will begin the week of September 25th and run through November 17th. Each class costs $60 per student.

Classes will meet once a week after school dismissal at 2:30pm and run for 1 hour until 3:30pm. No classes will be held on holidays, school snow days or early release school days. Classes missed for these reasons or teacher absence will be made up the week of November 27th and subsequent weeks if necessary.

Each class requires a minimum of 6 registered students to run. Classes will be filled as registrations are received on a first come first served basis. Each class also has a maximum number of students that is set by the instructor. Your student may sign up for more than one class.

To register your student, please do one of the following:1. Register your student online and pay online with a credit card at: https://smsafterschool.wufoo.com/forms/asp-registration

2. Print and fill out the attached form and send it to school with your student with a check or cash payment.

Paper registration forms with check/cash payments should be returned to the middle school office no later than 3:00 pm on Wednesday, September 20th.

Prior to your student’s first class you will be emailed class dates, location, and other details. Late registrations may be accepted, space permitting. Registration fees will not be adjusted for classes a student has missed.

IMPORTANT: Please be aware that there is no school nurse available in the building during the After School Program class time. You can make the ASP Instructor aware of your student’s allergies or other medical condition(s) on the ASP registration form. All students enrolled in clubs that meet outdoors or in the gym will need to complete a liability waiver.
