R.C.I.A. Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults
Becoming Catholic We invite all adults interested in becoming
Catholic, and Baptized Catholics who need both the Sacraments of
Eucharist and Confirmation, to join us on a Journey of Faith in the
R.C.I.A. Process. We know many of you come to Mass with your
families and are hesitant to take that first step. Our St. Rose of
Lima R.C.I.A Team provides a welcoming environment where the
Teachings of the Church are presented and your questions answered.
We bring you on a Faith Journey with the Catholic Church; its
beliefs, traditions, history and worship, and incorporate you into
its life with Christ today. For more information, please call Sandy
Lemos in our Faith Formation office at 915-4621. We look forward to
meeting you.
Join us next Saturday, October 7th at the 5:00pm Mass. The
Church commemorates the feast of Our Lady of the Rosary, a
celebration that has its origin not, as it would seem, in simply a
prayer, but a battle. On October 7th, 1571 a fleet of ships
assembled by the combined forces of Naples, Sardinia, Venice, the
Papacy, Genoa, Savoy and the Knights Hospitallers fought an intense
battle with the fleet of the Ottoman Empire. The battle took place
in the Gulf of Patras located in western Greece. Though outnumbered
by the Ottoman forces, the so-called “Holy League” possessed of
superior firepower would win the day. This victory would severely
curtail attempts by the Ottoman Empire to control the
Mediterranean, causing a seismic shift in international relations
from East to West. In some respects, the world that we know came
into
being with this victory. This event is known to history as the
“Battle of Lepanto.” Pope Pius V, ordered the churches of Rome to
open for prayer day and night, encouraging the faithful to petition
the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary through the recitation
of the Rosary. The victory was attributed to the help of the Holy
Mother of God whose aide was invoked through the prayer of the
Rosary. Trusting in her intercession, we invite you to stay after
Mass to pray the Rosary for the Healing and Unity of Families.
EVENING BIBLE & FAITH STUDY Join us on Thursdays in Rm 8 at
7:00pm for our Bible Study on Ephesians. A limited number of the
accompa-ny study sets are available at the rectory for $19.95. Some
scholarships are available.
Discover Your Inheritance Paul’s letter to the Ephesians reveals
many remarkable gifts that we as Christians are given in the
Church. This letter tells us about the nature of the Church – as a
body, as a household, as a mystery, as a communion, as a bride, and
as an army. It shows us the great inheritance that awaits us as
sons and daughters, adopted fully into the family of God. It
reveals how God’s great love for us can transform our daily lives
if we allow it. Ephesians: Discover Your Inheritance is an 8-part
Bible study that will enrich your faith, and show you how to live
it out. In this study, you will: Discover what it means to be not
just a son or daughter of God, but an heir to all he has to give.
Learn about the great mystery of how we can love one another as
Christ loves the Church. Find out that you have a place in God’s
“plan of sheer goodness". For more info: Dr. Neil Fan-ning

Did you Know?
Background checks With school starting again, it’s likely that
your children are participating in a variety of after-school
activities. Many school sports and club programs are run by
volunteers, often parents with kids of their own in the school.
It’s important that the school or program takes measures to protect
all students, but as parents, it’s critical that you follow up and
confirm that the proper checks have been done. The Archdiocese of
Los Angeles uses fingerprinting as its core background check. All
persons, whether paid or volunteer, who have regular contact with
minors or vulnerable adults are fingerprinted. For more
information, visit
http://handbook.la-archdiocese.org/chapter-9/section-9-3
http://handbook.la-archdiocese.org/chapter-9/section-9-3
