  • STANFORD ENERGY SYSTEM INNOVATIONS (SESI) IS A NEW UNIVERSITY SUSTAINABILITY PROGRAM DESIGNED TO MEET THE ENERGY NEEDS OF STANFORD CAMPUS. AFTER FOUR YEARS OF PLANNING AND THREE YEARS OF CONSTRUCTION AND IMPLEMENTATION, SESI CAME ONLINE IN LATE MARCH VIA A NEW CENTRAL ENERGY FACILITY.

    REDUCE CAMPUS GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSIONS BY 68%

    REDUCE CAMPUS FRESH WATER USE BY AN ADDITIONAL 15%

    SAVE $420 MILLION OVER NEXT 35 YEARS

  • • NEARLY 9 MILLION SQUARE FEET OF BUILDING SPACE INVENTORIED

    • 86% of main campus, excluding R&DE buildings

    • Types of equipment included

    • Standard office equipment

    • Standard lab equipment

    • Common IT equipment

    • Other - EH&S hazards, water fixtures, occupancy data

    • Interns used web application developed by LBRE IT to collect inventory data

    • PLUG LOADS COST STANFORD OVER $8 MILLION PER YEAR

    • PluG LOADS COMPRISE AT LEAST 22% OF CAMPUS ELECTRICITY CONSUMPTION

    Goal: To meet the Stanford community’s demand for campus-wide utility consumption information in order to drive data driven decision making; provide the department with the tools needed to effectively manage Stanford’s utility infrastructure.

    A central source for the consumption meter, production meter, and key building operations utility data

    A new sophisticated and flexible application designed for the nuances of this campus

    A faster and simpler way of getting the information out of the vast amount of utility data

    Making campus wide sustainability metrics available to the wider Stanford community
